While it can be simpler for the veterinarian to apply the medication to your feline some may only order it and let you give it to them while at home.
The strongest way you can prevent ear mites is to thoroughly dry off your cat's ears once they have completed a bath. Likewise keep an eye on their ears and try to see if there are any foreign particles or matter in them. If you notice anything questioning you need to take them to the veterinarian instantly.
Cats will scratch at their ears, and this can bust tiny blood vessels in the ear. This can result in disfiguration and swelling, and it could cause permanent damage. It gets worse: Earmites that are left untreated for too long can cause seizures, rupture of the ear drum... even death.
If your cat scratches, shakes its head back and forth, and digs at its ears, it is possible that he or she has ear mites. But please remember, even if a cat is infested with earmites, he or she may not show any symptoms or signs of it. Often times, how sensitive the cat is to the mites' saliva can determine a reaction.
If there's an allergic reaction to the saliva, which can occur even with just a few mites, your cat will scratch and never find relief. Look for the signs. If you see any fluid in or around your cat's ears, or if she is acting strangely and scratches a lot, she may have ear mites. If you suspect this, you should make sure that she is treated immediately.
If you have other pets, you should also know that they could easily become infested with the mites as well. If you have to treat one of the cats in your house, you should absolutely check the other cats for symptoms, or take them to the veterinarian. Your poor cat will feel absolutely miserable with this condition. The sooner she gets the treatment she needs, the better the both of you will feel.
