[S847]Sri Lanka Holiday Packages
by Pankaj Mohan, Pan
Sri Lanka could be described as one of the most beautiful islands around the world. It is situated just off the southern Indian fringe at about 600 miles north of the equator in the Indian Ocean. There is strong evidence that human civilization has existed in this tiny island nation for over 2000 years now. The island's teeming natural beauties, a great legacy of its historic events, and a well-admired ability to host the outside world have always been applauded by travelers. Those who love examining ancient worlds, the serenity of nature and going through the excitement of life will always want to be part of Sri Lanka holidays. Travel companies selling hot deals, including those to Sri Lanka in the name of last minute holidays, could be found trading from all major countries across the globe.

Until gaining its independence in 1948, Sri Lanka had remained part of the British Empire for roughly about 150 years. The island's control was gained by the British East India Company during the late 18th century and it was fully commissioned as a British colony in the year 1802. It never got integrated with the neighboring British India however, and was finally declared independent soon after the end of Second World War. Native Sri Lankans had already been exposed to the influences of modern education and western living style before being granted complete independence. One could still witness imprints of that British era, while traveling across Sri Lanka's terrain in the modern days. It makes the Sri Lanka Holidays even more attractive therefore, especially for those hailing from the UK.

The British hierarchy in Sri Lanka had begun growing tea, coffee, sugar, rubber and cinnamon from the very beginning of their stay and brought many Tamil workers from India to help speed up the whole exercise. They did not only construct modern schools, colleges and roads, but were also the chief architect of a unified Sri Lanka. There were three separate kingdoms existent across this island before the British finally arrived. The highlight of an ancient Sri Lanka apart from its British heritage includes the 5th century rock fortress at Sigiriya, the fascinating ruins of the ancient capitals of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, the royal legacy of Kandy, the cave temples at Dambulla and many more similar tourism destinations.

It takes only about nine and half hours to fly down to Colombo from London. Several types of Sri Lanka holidays are there to choose from, if one desired spending their last minute holidays in this fascinating land. The region carries one of the best sea beaches and resorts found anywhere in the world, and its hospitality is well admired by travelers from across the globe. There is a rich variety of flora and fauna, water falls and adventure activities available for those who might desire to have some exciting moments. Of course, buying up last minute holidays to Sri Lanka is the best way for getting unwound from one's hectic daily schedules. And it takes only a few mouse clicks to book them.

Sri Lanka holidays are becoming more popular, and the number of package holidays to Sri Lanka are once again on the increase. Sri Lank is a beautiful island with much to see and do from beautiful beaches on the south west coast, to historic places like the Temple of the Tooth in Kandy. You can visit working tea plantation or old British Hill Station at Nuwera Eliya.on your Sri Lanka Vacation.

One place you must visit is the Fort at Galle, and when you are there you need to stay in the Amangalla Resort.

Amangalla is an amazing hotel by anyones? standards anywhere, but quite outstanding by anywhere else in Sri Lanka. The Aman group has done it again in Galle on the south coast.

Amangalla is within the ramparts of the 17th century Fort in the town of Galle, and uses the old buildings which date back in some cases over 400 years.

The historic town of Galle has a combination of houses from both the British and Dutch colonial eras, and the resort gives its guests a glimpse of historic Galle, with its narrow streets, daily life, and hustle and bustle of daily life.

Amangalla is a great base to explore the fascinating city of Galle, and the surrounding areas, and you don't have to walk far before you can see and understand what the old Fort and Galle is about, and begin to understand its history and customs

The Hotel provides views either of the garden or the Fort and Harbour beyond, but it is the whole ethos of Amangalla that makes it possibly the ultimate hotel to stay in on your Sri Lanka holidays.

A typical day at Amangalla could well take the following format.

You will be woken by your own butler, and be served tea in bed. When the shutters are pulled back by him the sunlight will fill the room, and you may well be staring in amazement at the stunning view of the ramparts of the old fort, or the Old Dutch Church.

As a man you might start your day in the Spa and you can be shaved in the old fashioned way, even in a proper barber's chair, with a proper cut throat razor!! This will be the complete London Club works, and will include hot and cold towels, and high quality pre shave and aftershave products.

After a superb restaurant breakfast in the Zaal, you may well wish to spend the morning around the pool, where you will be waited on hand and foot, with a seemingly endless supply of cold towels, iced water, even watermelon.

You may take a walk in the old town, or if it is too hot go to the spa and have a massage, but if you take a walk you will automatically have a guide, with such great knowledge about the history of Galle.

Returning to Amnagalla for lunch, you'll be greeted with more ice cold towels, very welcome after the heat, and iced water equally welcomed. After lunch perhaps a visit to the spa's hydro pool or sauna, a restful nap, then pre dinner drinks on the top floor.

Dinner will be of the same quality as the rest of the day, with a wine list to match.

Then bed perchance to dream of tomorrow and another totally relaxing day at Amangalla, part of a totally memorable package holiday to Sri Lanka.
