[S936]Starting Vending Machine Business
by Isabel Baldry, Isa
One of the simplest ways to enter business as an entrepreneur is through a vending machine business. This is a potentially profitable business that does not require a large and involved organization and has a lot of positive aspects to it. So why not learn vending machine business and make money immediately. Obviously there are positives and negatives to the business.

Let's take a look at the positives first: One of the most positive aspects of the vending machine business is that labor is nil, the machines are your only employees requiring maintenance now and then. There are no checks and paper work that needs clearing. It is a strictly cash based business.

Now for some of the negatives: machines can break down, you may not get the locations you want. To counter these negatives, a vending machine business needs careful planning before you get into it. It is therefore essential that you learn the vending machine business ups and downs thoroughly.

Location is of the greatest importance to have success in your vending machine business. Prepare yourself for rejection, as most stores and prime locations in the markets may not be willing to let you place your machines outside their establishments. This should not put you off; many of them will let you, provided you share a portion of the profits with them. You must be very creative, in the choice of your location; a machine placed in an area which no one passes through will not bring you any money.

You must make sure that your machines are to be found in places where they are easily accessible and visible. The location must be an area where people tend to meet. In getting ideas for possible locations to place your machines, the first step is to ask yourself the types of people you are marketing to, what are the products your vending machines will carry? Who will buy those products? As an obvious example, a vending machine that dispenses packets of potato chips is ideal for a school or a college, but a specialty machine like one that dispenses hygiene products will not be so.

The second issue that you must factor into your planning is the type of machine that you will need for a particular area. There are a lot of machines and some may give access to all the products inside the machine to the customer, some may dispense only a single article. The issues here are the type of customer base you are likely to encounter, vandalism, theft etc. This is a factor you must take into consideration.

Some neighborhoods may be safe for a particular type of vending machine, others may not be. Be realistic about the area and the location. You will be out of sight from the machines for long periods of time, your choice of machine must be calculated on the kind of location or neighborhood your machine will be in. if the machine can be easily broken into and the area has a high vandalism, you are probably not going to make pots of money!

The type of machine is important in another respect. Vending machines are mechanical things, and such mechanical things have a tendency to break down. Unfortunately for you, a broken down machine can seriously affect your sales. This issue can be solved in a variety of ways.

The first way is to make certain that you are getting the best performing machines for the type of goods that you intend to sell; the second equally important issue you must deal with is that such broken machines are immediately repaired. Machines break down and are repaired, make certain that all your machines are repaired and checked for performance whenever necessary. Your sale volumes are also heavily dependant on this factor. Be confident, this is a great business, it involves little time once you learn vending machine business strategies and have the prime locations and planning sorted out. Let the machines bring you your money.

My name is Max Woody and I'd like to share some exciting information about the vending machine business. I started in this business in 1995 and now offer a complete line of vending machine items. The main products I sell are snacks, soda, juice drinks and frozen food items.

The vending machine business in my opinion is one of the best business opportunities available today for many reasons.

Unlike many opportunities that deliver little, vending machines produce over 30 Billion a year in sales. This business continues to grow and offers anyone an excellent opportunity to earn a very good income.

Let's face it, everyone loves to eat snacks and drink soda. People are addicted to sugar and caffeine, especially at work. They need vending machines to make it through the day.

The vending machine business is also recession proof. The lower cost of these items makes it affordable to just about anyone. People will always dig up some extra spending money and fit this habit into their everyday budget.

I started my vending business with just a few machines and an old beat up dodge cargo van. I was very serious about the business and determined to go full time soon. It took me about six months of pounding the streets and it happened. I quit the job I hated and went full time with vending machines and it's been that way ever since.

This business is very unique compared to others. There's very little competition. There's actually a shortage of Independent Vending companies to service the number of customers in just about every major city.

The fact is, the smaller vending companies like mine have a big advantage over the larger vending companies. The huge vending companies just can't provide the personal touch as that of a smaller company.

More and more companies are now looking to smaller companies to provide their vending service. The bigger vending companies just have too many complaints, like their machines constantly breaking down, or not being able to keep the machines stocked.

The fact is, over the past 12 years, my company has done very well just by providing service to about 15 high volume accounts that are within just a few miles of each other.

Good high volume accounts are not really hard to get. You just have to know exactly what to look for when finding them. Many factors will effect the overall sales of each account.
For example, the more hours a company works, then of course the more sales your machines will generate. Also, the blue collar factory type workers tend to generate the bigger profits. They work hard and eat and drink more. I like to go after accounts that have at least 100 employee's minimum.

Also, get information about your potential customers. Find out exactly what they do. Get a good feel for the success of the company. Are they expanding? Do they have plans to add additional employees?

Also, how many shifts does the company operate? The more shifts, the better. Also, consider the morale of the employees. Does the company pay them good? The bigger the paychecks, the more likely they will be to spend more money in your machines. These are clear signs as to what type of profits your vending machines could produce with the company.

Many times you may get accounts that will double in size within just a few years. I've had this happen with my business. This allows your vending company to grow right along with them. These are the type of accounts you want to do business with.

Many people start a vending business the wrong way. They just go out and get customers without considering exactly what type of money the account would generate. In the beginning and even now, I'm very picky about the companies I provide vending service to and you should also do the same. Believe me, it pays off much more in the long run.

Vending machines offer an excellent source of income. The cost to start this business is very low and you can expand at your own pace. Like any other business, you must however learn the basic steps in order to generate the highest profit potential. The techniques I've used over the years have worked well for me and my business.
