[B370]Best Binoculars For Astronomy
by Koz Huseyin, Koz
There are different benefits to both owning a telescope or binoculars for astronomy use. There are also negatives to both, and it is important you weigh the strengths of both options before buying binoculars or a telescope for backyard astronomy.

* The Telescope For Astronomy
If you buy a Meade, Celestron, Orion or many other telescopes from manufacturers which produce good quality telescopes, you will have in your hands a scientific instrument which can show you a lot in the night sky.

A good telescope can show you more detail than a pair of astronomy binoculars. And you will see more distant objects, which more not be so clear in a pair of binoculars. With a good telescope, you will also find that it lasts for many years, when looked after.

A problem with telescopes, however, is that they take up a lot of space, and can seem difficult to first time users. The point of moving the telescope around, aligning the telescope, etc, can seem difficult. The good point is that you will be learning along the way, and you could even buy a telescope that has a computer system which does the navigating for you! It's as simple as point and click.

* Astronomy Binoculars For Backyard Astronomy
Many people believe that you need a telescope to be able to view space. However, this is not the case, and sometimes could get you out of astronomy sooner, than if you had started with a good pair of binoculars for astronomy.

Binoculars can be used for many other purposes also. You could use it with camping, when traveling, for birding or even hunting, not to mention using it for astronomy also!

One thing to bear in mind is that binoculars for astronomy use need to have some power in them. The smallest binoculars may do a good job with showing our Moon slightly more detailed, than with the naked eye. But, the binoculars may not be useful for looking at Jupiter or Saturn for example.

The large field of vision in binoculars allows you to see more of the sky than you would with a telescope. Whereas the telescope is designed to focus to a fine degree, a pair of binoculars is designed for larger fields of view.

Binoculars can be great to see and study the constellations and other objects in space. They may not show you the detail like a telescope, but they can be used for many purposes. One thing to keep in mind is size and weight. Astronomy binoculars can be very heavy and may need a tripod. Which at this point, it makes it more desirable to go for a telescope.

If you enjoy spending time in the great outdoors, you'll find that a good pair of binoculars can add a new and unexpected level of fun to a family vacation, scenic hike, fishing trip or other outdoor outing. Whether you're birdwatching, admiring natural wonders, or sightseeing at historical landmarks, binoculars bring distant details into vivid focus, revealing fascinating aspects of your surroundings that you'd otherwise miss.

Fortunately for cost-conscious adventurers, a variety of high-quality binoculars are available for very reasonable prices - many well under $100. It's a good idea to start your binocular search by checking out models from such leading brands as Bushnell, Canon, Meade, Nikon, Olympus, Swarovski and Zeiss.

Looking for binoculars for a specific pastime or hobby? Chances are there's a model designed precisely for your needs. Astronomical models with extremely high magnification and a large aperture for gathering faint starlight are available for amateur astronomers. These can be an excellent and affordable alternative to telescopes for backyard skywatchers. Boaters and anglers can choose from waterproof marine binoculars that will float if lost overboard.

If you're into cave exploration, nighttime orienteering, or other low-light activities, then you should definitely look into a pair of night vision binoculars, which can illuminate and magnify a darkened landscape that would otherwise be invisible to the naked eye. And for birders and nature lovers, many light-weight, highly portable binoculars are available to bring distant wildlife into sharp focus.

The level of magnification offered by a particular binocular is identified by a standard numeric measurement that combines the magnification level with the millimeter diameter of the light-gathering objective lens. So a binocular labeled as "7 X 50" will magnify objects 7 times and has a 50 millimeter objective lens. While the most basic models of binoculars offer a single, preset level of magnification, more advanced designs include zoom lenses which allow the user to switch quickly and easily between low and high magnification and back again.

Some higher-end binoculars also include a laser range finder that provides precise measurement of distances to the objects being observed. And thanks to digital imaging technology, many combination camera-binocular models are available, with a compact, high-resolution digital camera integrated directly into the binocular design. Just zoom in on a distant object you'd like to photograph, press a button and you've captured a digital image to take home with you!

Once you've made your choice of binoculars best suited to your viewing requirements, you should have no trouble finding a great deal at shopping sites like Amazon and eBay. With no shortage of dependable online merchants to choose from, your new binoculars are just a few clicks away!
