[T558]The Last Holiday Movie
by Kelly Renaul, Kel
The Peanuts on DVD brings home some of the best loved Peanuts specials of all time all in one collection. The deluxe edition collection includes Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, and A Charlie Brown Christmas. There are also a handful of bonus episodes that have been included on the digitally re mastered disc, such as Its Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown, The Mayflower Voyagers, and Its Magic, Charlie Brown. The Peanuts DVD holiday collection is a popular gift this season for fans of the legendary comic, young and old.

The Peanuts on DVD was released in September and the entire collection has been digitally enhanced and re mastered for upgraded sound and picture quality. Although A Charlie Brown Christmas had been initially produced as a one shot deal, it has spawned 64 follow up specials. Three of those beloved episodes are holiday themed specials that are included in the new Peanuts DVD. When Charles Schulz, famed creator of Peanuts, was approached about bringing his comic strip characters to the television for a holiday special, many of the first specials had their plots and the characters lines taken directly from the comic strips themselves, which many people feel left the unique Peanuts charm intact and alive.

In the Peanuts on DVD, A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) has been popularized as a classic short show that brings attention to the over commercialization that has overcome the holiday season and it provokes some thought about what the true meaning of Christmas is. Its Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown (1992) brings the holiday play to the center of the plot. Charlie Brown tries to sell wreaths to make money to buy presents and the gang is in full swing as well. Included in the Peanuts on DVD disc is a featurette about the making of A Charlie Brown Christmas that many fans have found entertaining and interesting. There is also a bonus CD that features six songs from the original Peanuts score that was composed by Guaraldi.

Also part of the Peanuts on DVD is Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown which is thought to be the most memorable Peanuts specials. The little film was done in 1966 and revolves around Linus and his belief in a mythical pumpkin that arises from a pumpkin patch to bring gifts to a child who waits there for it. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving was released in 1973 and revolves around Charlie Brown trying to conjure up a Thanksgiving feast for his friends. The amusing fiasco that ensues is just one of the memorable happenings that can be found on the new Peanuts on DVD collection.
