[T153]Ten Years After Rapidshare
by Dr Barry Eppley, Dr
One of the most commonly performed facial aging procedures is that of the blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery. While it could be most common because there are four eyelids (and only one nose for example), it is frequently performed for other reasons. It is the earliest sign of facial aging...and it often bothers patients the most because aging eyes are seen by all and make an impression (usually wrong) of being tired or worn out. Every conversation that you have ever had, you spend most of your time (or you should) looking into the other person's eyes. Tired eyes are seen by all!

Blepharoplasty (eyelid tucks) can make the greatest difference in reversing that tired aged appearance since it is the focal point of many human interactions. Removing a little excess skin and fat can really clean up your eyes and make you look less tired and more vibrant. This is why I always call blepharoplasty the best value of all the facial aging procedures. It causes the greatest positive change in your appearance.

One of the more interesting things about blepharoplasty is that it is painless to go through for most patients. Yes, there is some noticeable swelling and bruising around the eyes but remarkably, there is usually no pain. You look 'beat up' but you don't feel so. Recovery from blepharoplasty is what I call social recovery. When you feel comfortable again going out in public is what makes up blepharoplasty recovery. For some patients, they are not concerned about their appearance and they are out in public again in 3 to 5 days. Most patients do care, however, so their full return to the public eye may be closer to 7 to 10 days.

Blepharoplasty is one plastic surgery where what you do before and after the procedure can make a big difference in the amount of bruising and swelling that occurs. Ceasing to take medications that can cause excessive bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal medications, is the first step. Taking arnica tablets beginning one week before and after surgery is the next step. Keep your head and your eyes iced for the first 24 hours after surgery. I also place an Actipatch Eye Recovery mask immediately after surgery and onto this is where you place the ice. ActiPatch emits pulsed electromagnetic waves which help reduce swelling on the traumatized eyelids. After the first 24 hours, keep your head elevated and only use a very light amount of eye antibiotic ointment on your eyelid incisions. (this keeps the sutures soft so that they are easier to remove)

In 10 - 14 days, you will look 'non-operated', even though there is still some small amount of swelling and perhaps some line of bruising along the lower eyelid. By 3 weeks after surgery, you will be able to enjoy the full benefits of your blepharoplasty surgery! You will looke more refreshed and that will undoubtably be noticed...even though most will never figure that it was due to eyelid surgery. (unless you told them!)

You really do not have to spend too much in order to become younger-looking. In fact, you do not even have to suffer the risks of undergoing cosmetic surgeries and other procedures just so your skin will look firmer and your breasts a bit perkier. With just simple changes, you can actually shave about ten years from the way you look.

Here are six simple steps that will surely make you look more fit and young:

Get Some Beauty Sleep

Wrinkles and skin discoloration around the eyes will surely make you ten, even twenty years older than you truly are. If you want to look youthful and more vibrant, you have to make sure you sleep soundly for at least seven hours a day. Some celebrities even sleep a lot longer.

Sleep is important not only in preventing formation of eye bags and raccoon eyes, but also for making your mind more alert. It is during your deep sleep that your mind sorts things out and files the information it gathered for the day. If you don't get enough sleep, most information (such as names, meetings, and telephone numbers) will not be properly stored by the brain and so you will find it difficult to remember them when you need them. Thus, you end up feeling and looking older than you are because you already have fuzzy episodes and memory lapses.

Flash Your Smile

Take one picture of yourself smiling and another one frowning. If you compare the pictures, you will see that you look a lot younger and better when you were smiling than when you were frowning. A smile is an inexpensive way to lift your face, so your wrinkles and other blemishes are not that conspicuous. Furthermore, studies have shown that when you smile certain brain chemicals responsible for happy mood are released. So the more you smile, the more you will be happy and less stressful.

Have Your Eyes Checked

Since there are thousands of hip and funky eyeglasses available in the market, you do not have to worry about looking old when wearing glasses. Thus, when you feel that you are already having difficult reading the papers or seeing the signs on the street, you better head to your eye specialist and have your eyes examined. Wearing eyeglasses is way better than squinting because the latter could further exacerbate your wrinkles in the eye area.

Do Some Weight Training

Have you noticed that people who are older have flabbier arms? As you get older, your skin's elasticity is diminished so your skin becomes loose and sagging. The best way to counter this effect of aging is to lift some weights. If you do not know how to lift weights, it would be better to enroll in a gym for a while and learn from a certified instructor. Another benefit of weight training and exercise is the strengthening of your bones and muscles.

Cut Your Hair

Even if you look stunning in a Dallas-inspired coiffure, you will still look old because of your 80's hairstyle. Go to your stylist and ask him or her for an updated hairstyle. Usually, a shorter cut makes people over 50 look younger. Follow the lead of Hollywood stars Sharon Stone and Shirley McLaine.

Keep Your Skin Moisturized

The first thing that you need to do to help moisturize your skin is to drink ample amounts of water. A person who is dehydrated usually has wrinkly skin and you do not want to have that. Water is important not only in getting rid of toxins, but also from moisturizing your skin from within.

It is also important for you to use moisturizing creams to help fight the signs of skin aging. For maturing skin, a moisturizer that targets wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and blemishes is needed. One anti-aging skin product that is effective in keeping your face hydrated, soft and wrinkle-free is Dermaxin. Know more about this product by visiting
