Often we neglect our sound health and fail to take proper care of our body. It is only when the normal functioning stops and we have to go through other methods to make up for the loss do we realize its importance. Teeth is one such important part of our body but rarely do we give it its full due. The set of sparkling white teeth that you had during your young days have given way to all sort of dental problems affecting your teeth in extremity. In such cases you need the help of dentures to go about your day to day activities in life.
Importance of Dentures
Having dentures is not a very pleasant experience and many of you might face discomfort. Some of you may start feeling conscious and avoid any kind of activity that would expose your artificial teeth to others. But with a little adjustment the dentures can bring back your confidence and the smile on your face too. Here are some important tips that you should be aware of when using your dentures
Precautionary Measures
Abstain from eating raw vegetables, any kind of sticky foods or meat which is fibrous if you have received a new set of dentures. Use your canine teeth instead of the front teeth. Do not pull the food forward. Rather push it back as you bite into it. While chewing, keep the food on either sides of your mouth to balance the dentures. Eat a proper diet as your body may lack in certain minerals and vitamins due to your hard chewing disability. Speak slowly and if required practice in front of the mirror.
Some Changes
You might experience more saliva or your dentures could come loose when sneezing or coughing. This is because your bones in the lower jaw wears away which makes your dentures ill fitting and causes you discomfort. It is a good habit to always remove your dentures before going to bed. Regular visits to your dentist will ensure that your dentures are working fine. Sometimes some people become allergic to their dentures because of the materials that are used. You should clean your dentures and oral tissues regularly.
Caring for your Dentures
You should store your dentures in water or in solutions meant for your denture cleaning with a lid before going to bed. Wash the container daily after use. You need to clean your dentures twice a day with specially designed brushes. Also brush your tissues in your mouth to remove any remnants. Some use denture adhesives to hold their dentures from slipping out. If your dentures do not fit you see your doctor immediately. Do not attempt to repair the dentures yourself. Occasionally you might need alterations for your dentures so that they are securely fitted on to your gums for which you need to go to the dentist.
A rubber is actually a thin covering made of latex, plastic, or animal membrane. The most common types of condoms in the market are made of latex. However, due to some people being allergic to latex, the plastic type has been developed. This kind of condom is generally more expensive than those made of latex. More so, it seems that the condoms made of plastic break more easily. The last kind, made of animal membrane, is also termed ?natural? condoms.
There is a wide variety of latex condoms. They can be grouped according to size, shape, thickness, lubrication, flavor, and color. The first three classifications may play a critical role in birth control while the latter three do not.
When should a man use a condom? Anytime that he has sex with a partner, he should use a condom. That is, if he wants to prevent pregnancy and/or he wants to be safe from sexually transmitted diseases. In fact, these are the two important roles condoms have. Even if there is only the slightest risk that the sexual partner may have a sexually transmitted disease, a condom should be used. According to studies, men become infected with STDs often when they have oral sex. As such, condoms should be used then as well.
Though condoms present a viable means of birth control and preventing the spread of STDs, they are not 100% effective. For birth control, they are around 85% effective. With careful use, however, the percentage goes up.
You should know that condoms can break ? and they do. Once this occurs it is no longer effective. Condoms that are too old would rip easily. Condoms today are packaged in such a way that it is indicated when they should not be used anymore. Improper storage could also cause the breakdown of the material. Keeping condoms in the car glove compartment or your wallet can expose it to high temperatures and thus make the material prone to breakage. Another cause of breakage in condoms is the lack of lubrication. In order to prevent this, make sure that you use water based lubricants. Never use oil based lubricants as they erode the material in the condom. These include Vaseline, baby oil, and others. It may not be obvious but if the condom size is too small, it would not work as well. So make sure that you have the right size.
Remember, you should not put your life at risk. Whether it is pregnancy you are avoiding or the risk of acquiring STD, your life can change drastically if you are not careful enough. Do not go out on a limb and take your chances. It is better to be safe than sorry. Protect yourself now.
