[T280]The Best Gym Workout
by Gregg Hall, Gre

As a busy professional you are constantly on the go and have little time for anything else, including keeping up with your exercise regime. Often times, with good intentions, we plan on getting up extra early on Saturday to take that run or get some exercise in, however, we fail to realize just how tired we are and likely never make it out of bed that early.

However, there is now a solution to the problem. Many gyms exist now days that specifically cater to busy professionals. Established gyms have even gotten wise and have begun offering special deals for those who work hard, with little time for exercise.

The following are a few tips that will help you in determining what gym works for you and your schedule. It is important to remember that before you sign anything, that you check out the place, then read and understand the terms of membership.

First thing first, look at the schedule of the gym. Gyms are now finding it economical to remain open 24 hours. For busy professionals, this could be the answer they have been looking for. While exercising at three in the morning does not specifically appeal to you in general, it does appeal to many others who have hectic schedules. It is important to compare of the schedule of the gym with your own schedule. It is recommended that you avoid exercise of any sort in the three hours prior to bedtime. This could create problems with sleeping, so when it is time to exercise you will want to think about this aspect.

To some people the facilities the gym offers far outweighs the times they are open. However, there are some things you should be looking for that every "good" gym should have. For example, a fully equipped weight lifting room is essential. Be sure to check the machines and ensure that they are kept in the best condition possible. Check out the area designated for cardio classes, this area should be spacious and provide adequate room for the exercises. Furthermore, the gym must provide separate locker rooms for women and men, plus a swimming pool for other exercises.

Depending on what you are looking for check out the classes offered by trained experts at the gym such as yogilates, spinning, or weight training. Additionally, if it appeals to you find out if they have massage services or a sauna.

There are many factors that play into picking the right gym. You might have to try a few different facilities in order to find the one for you. The important thing is that you are comfortable and satisfied with the gym you choose. You want your workout experience there to be beneficial. You want to look forward to working out and not dreading it.

Here are few areas you will want to consider and explore more in depth when choosing a gym:

Accessibility: How accessible the gym is for you will be a determining factor. Can you walk there? Is there a lot of traffic along the way? Another thing to consider is do you want to workout closer to home or work? Or does your work have a workout facility within it? If so, maybe you can find a co-worker or two that would want to go to the gym with you.

Cost: As for most things, cost becomes one of the main determining factors. You will need to do some comparing and contrasting. Is it worth the extra dollar to go to one gym instead of another? It depends on many other aspects about the facility.

Keep your eye out on membership specials. There might be family packages and seasonal deals. Cheaper rates are sometimes available to certain companies, so check whether or not the company you work for can get you a deal.

Trainers: If a personal trainer is what you're looking for, then visit gyms, meet the trainers, and ask other patrons what their experiences have been with the trainers. See what kinds of strengths and specialties they have. You will want a gym that has knowledgeable staff members.

Atmosphere: Every gym has its own atmosphere just like restaurants have their own atmosphere and feel to them. Is the gym geared more towards body builders, power lifters, cardio enthusiasts, swimmers, aerobics, etc.?

There are also different kinds of facilities. Do you want a country club facility, a health club, a YMCA, a recreation center, or a studio that specializes in classes for areas such as dance or martial arts?

Equipment: Make sure the gym you choose has the equipment you like to use or need to use for the particular exercises you have for your plan. Check out and see if the equipment is up-to-date and in good condition. The last thing you want is getting injured on a faulty piece of equipment.

Condition of facility: The condition of the equipment, bathrooms and just the entire gym can tell you a lot about the facility. If the gym is not clean and maintained, then that is not the gym you want. It is not worth your time and money to go to a place where they do not care about their patrons.

As you begin looking for the gym you want, consider getting a guest pass and visit a few times. This will give you a good idea of how you feel and give you a chance to explore the whole facility and try out most of the equipment.
