[A1]A 1 Courier Services
by Jessica Thomson, Jes
When you are entrusting a courier service with a task of delivering the document to a particular destination or recipient, what is the guarantee that the courier service will not use the document to serve its own selfish interests? There is also a possibility of the losing it and make you incur financial losses. There are even chances that the recipient receives the letter or the document late and the sender loses a business opportunity. Sometimes the article that is being couriered is delicate or fragile and gets damaged during transit. Who is going to bear the brunt of the financial losses? This is where the courier service's legality becomes important.
Legality about the existence of the company:
Genuineness : The courier service should be registered at the concerned government office. It should have legal permission or license to conduct the courier service. If the registration number has been provided by the government registering authorities then the service provider has to display it or its photocopy. The client should always check this document and the number.
Insurance : Has the courier service insured the goods that it couriers? If the courier service has availed the services of the insurance company then it is another proof of it being genuine.
Legality about the services offered by the company:
Uniform : The personnel who are in parcel delivery are the key persons who interact with the clients. These personnel should wear a uniform with the logo or the symbol of the company. This looks professional and leaves no scope for the recipient to doubt the delivery boy. The delivery boy should have an identification card mentioning the name and address of both the courier service and the delivery boy. You can always ask for it to be shown to you.
Delay in Delivery : For a courier service the most critical issue is the delay in deliver. The legalities pertaining to the courier service and parcel delivery service are usually mentioned in the terms and conditions mentioned along with the receipt of the fee charged by the Courier service. Does the courier service offer insurance cover if the courier service is delayed and there is financial loss?
International : Does the company have the permission to deliver the courier in a foreign country? Does it have the required license for that?
The Couriers must
1have a driving license that is clean,
2be physically fit and energetic,
3be able to read the map and navigate especially for express delivery,
4have an attitude that is responsible and inclined towards safety, and
5be interested in driving as well as basic maintenance for vehicles
