[T437]The Experience Of Learning
by Jimi Adeboyejo, Jim
In education there should be no restrictions as education should be and can be available to all and education is for all ages.

Education and what it is designed to do.
This means actively engaging in ensuring that all receive the information about subjects taught, courses available, services for the disabled and those with special needs, approved teaching organisations and ensuring that each person is educated to the set standard and guidelines.

It is also designed to inform all on the different subjects taught and mechanisms and encouragement and support available to assist were one has failed. It encourages all that we can learn and that learning does not begin when we start nursery, reception class and primary school and learning does not end at secondary school, college and or university.

We are always learning. Whether good or bad, we are learning all the time. We learn through play, socialising, oral and written communication, art, dance, music, meditation, reading and various activities.

We will also give ourselves to learning according to our heart desires, role models, various professions and even our dreams. We do not always take a specific direction by chance. It is our desire(s) that pushes us in the direction that we take and we educate ourselves accordingly. Many of us have entered into jobs by chance and were it is a job that we enjoy, we will endeavour to learn the required/specialist skills required on the job, through reading, take an online and or internal/external training.

We are always learning and from this reality, you can see why education is designed for all and why is it important that we keep learning not for the evil but for the good. Learning is also a means of empowerment. You are enlightened and equipped in all aspects of your life.

What is Education?
It is the agreed way of learning. Education is structured and developed by a governing body.

Here are some other definitions given to education.
(a)the activities of educating or instructing or teaching: activities that impart knowledge or skill
(b)knowledge gained by learning and instruction: "it was clear to see that s/he had a very broad education"
(c)the gradual process of acquiring knowledge: "education is a way of preparing for life"
(d)the profession of teaching (especially at a nursery, school or college or university)
(e)the result of good upbringing (especially knowledge of correct social behaviour): " women of breeding and refinement"

Education is also a large library and for many it is as a depository built to contain books and other materials for reading and study, (computing) a collection of standard programs and subroutines that are stored and available for immediate use.

Who is education designed for?
Education is for each person and for all ages. It even matters in the womb. A child and or children in the womb can be educated i.e. through music, reading. It has been proven that children taught a song or piece of music from the womb will respond to the song and the piece of music once born.

In each country there is a structured way of teaching. Some countries have a frameworks and strategy for child from birth.

Does this mean that were this framework and strategy is not in place children are less fortunate. NO! As teaching is not always performed in a formal setting.

God has given parents an in built mechanism in teaching and this is demonstrated when a child is born. Instantly this gift is immediately switched on and parents commence teaching. Educating them about there family, body parts, toys, surroundings, environment until such time that they can receive an education.

In England for instance, there is a framework and strategy for children aged 0-3 years. The foundation stage is for children aged 3-5 years. The foundation stage is the first stage of the National Curriculum followed by: Key stage 1 (5-7 years), Key stage 2 (7-11), Key stage 3 (11-14) & Key stage 4 (14-16).

Then some receive Higher Education, which are advanced subjects that we undertake once we have completed primary, junior and secondary school education. It is a way of ensuring that one receives the highest level to enable them to achieve the job and profession one wishes to do.

Adult learning: Many adults are continuing and returning to education. This is because many are embarking upon a career change or need to be qualified in their present professions such as a social worker.

This can be achieved at whilst at work, through a part-time or full time course, through e-learning.

It is encouraging to see so many in education no matter the age.

Non-sectarian Princeton University in New Jersey is a revered seat of learning, part of the elite Ivy League conglomeration of eight colleges, and has a long and rich history. Founded in the town of Elizabeth in 1746 as the College of New Jersey, this premier educational establishment was relocated to Princeton ten years after its formation, but didn't change its name to reflect its new location until some 150 years later.

The original university's building - the Nassau Hall - forms the centre point of today's campus. It has been added to and changed function many times over the years, but still retains its original fa?ade. During the college's 150 year anniversary in 1896, Princeton adopted the title of Woodrow Wilson's keynote speech: ?Princeton in the nation's service? as its informal motto. Wilson was then a faculty member, but six years later became the University's 13th President and immediately set about enlarging and improving the college. Plans for a graduate school were finalized during his term of office and Wilson also doubled the size of the faculty. His vision and plans formed the basis of the university's expansion and development for the remainder of the 20th Century. Indeed, during 1996-97 Princeton celebrated its 250th birthday, expanding its motto to include: ?and in the service of all nations? reflecting the worldwide distribution of its alumni.

From its humble beginnings based around Nassau Hall, Princeton has now expanded to a 600 acre campus incorporating over 160 buildings and boasting 1,200 faculty members. There are over six million books residing on over seventy miles of shelving in the prestigious Princeton ?Firestone? library, and although the university traditionally focused on undergraduate education it has latterly turned to also providing Masters Degrees and PHDs as it increases its graduate education prospectus.

The college became Co-ed in 1969 when women were first admitted to this prestigious seat of learning, and today there are close to 4,750 undergraduates and 2,300 graduate students studying at Princeton. Most of the undergraduates and close to two-thirds of the graduate students live on campus. The university encourages parents to become actively involved with their children's progress at the school starting with Freshman enrolment where parents are invited to join their sons and daughters at Freshman Parents Weekend. It is normally held in the first weekend of October when, as you can imagine, it's virtually impossible to get a room at a .

Although in university terms it is a relatively small institution, Princeton is one of the nation's leading research educational establishments and continues to maintain its reputation for excellence and quality; one that has endured over its 260 year history.
