[T128]Teeth Whitening And Pregnancy
by John Porter, Joh
Teeth color depends on various factors. Some people have their tooth discolored by birth; some others have it with age and some others even after having white bright teeth spoils them by food habits, smoking, and drinking habits that are often detrimental of healthy white teeth. These surface stains on tooth are easily removed by various teeth treatment methods for whitening.

External stains that are caused by food and tobacco can be handled by using whitening strips and gels that are mostly found OTC. Thorough cleanings done by a dentist will remove mostly external stains caused by tobacco and food. Whitening toothpaste also helps remove surface staining between dental visits. If staining has been present for longer period, you need to have your teeth whitened professionally to remove more stubborn external stains.

Internal stains can be removed by bonding, bleaching, capping or crowning. In fact all of these methods are safe and effective; your dentist will suggest which treatment is suitable for you depending on the condition and formation of your teeth and the outcome of whitening that you want to achieve.

Before recommendation, your dentist will consider some factors like the extent and pattern of staining, remaining tooth structure - its shape and size etc.

In cosmetic dentistry one of the most effective techniques to treating tooth problems is tooth bonding which uses composite porcelain or resins or composite veneers to cover the stains and deformed broken teeth. Two basic bonding techniques are Composite Bonding and Veneer bonding.

In composite bonding the frontal teeth is slightly reduced to protect the new tooth from being wider. Then microscopic grooves are fixed on the tooth surface with a mild acid. By matching with the color of the surrounding teeth a composite resin is placed on the teeth. Then that is contoured into the shape and set using a curing light. Finally that will be polished and smoothened.

In veneer bonding a veneer is prepared to match the shape and color of the teeth. Porcelain veneers are usually stronger, but the composite veneers are very less expensive. The cosmetic dentist takes an impression of the teeth with porcelain veneers and sends it to the dental lab for further fabrication of the veneers. The dentist does this generally after the frontal tooth has been reduced.

In both the method dentist prepares the teeth for bonding by roughening the front surface of the teeth with mild etching solution. Then the veneer can be bonded with the help of dental bonding cement. Though it is more expensive, a porcelain veneer provides better color match to the neighboring teeth and usually lasts for five to ten years.

There are many teeth whitening products on the market today that will combat these problems. Professional laser treatments which are done in a dentist's office are a very effective treatment but they are usually very expensive. Some of the more effective over-the-counter treatments for whitening teeth include Crest whitening strips and white light tooth whitening systems.

The laser tooth whitening systems make use of cutting edge dental technology to give rapid results. They employ a whitening gel that is activated by the laser's light and they are painless and very effective. However, like all of the different teeth whitening products, they will not necessarily be able to match any tooth caps or crowns that you've had installed.

Many of the most common in-home treatments use a mild bleaching solution to whiten your teeth. Some are applied with strips, other brands use a one-size-fits-all mouth tray to apply the solution and still others incorporate the bleaching solution into toothpaste.

The advantages to the at-home systems are usually economic; These are usually much less expensive than the professional treatments found in a dentist's offics. Most of them are not nearly as effective as the more expensive professional treatments but used over a period of time, they do produce noticeable results.

Another advantage to the dentist's treatments are that they give much faster results. If you would rather save money (but take a bit longer to see results), you might find that the do-it-yourself whitening kits do a very nice job while saving you money as well.

One final consideration if you are choosing between a professional dentist's treatment and one that you can do at home is just how discolored or dull your teeth actually are.

Obviously, the more yellowed your teeth are, the harder it is going to be to bring them to a satisfactory shade of white. In fact, some teeth are so discolored that it just might prove to be impossible to get them all the way to a "pearly white" color.

However, a person with teeth that are that badly discolored will probably be happy with the improvement that they are able to get.

There are a number of over-the-counter teeth whitening kits available from the local drug store and you can also find a number of them on the internet.

Often the internet is a good place to find these types of products, especially if you are concerned about price or if you are wondering how well a product is going to work for you.

Many online suppliers offer a FREE trail of the product where you only pay for shipping and handling. The reason they do so is twofold.

The first reason they do so is to offer you an advantage to purchasing a treatment from the local drug store. The second reason they do this is to let you see first hand how effective their products really are. And that can really be a plus in your favor when searching for a product that will be effective for your own personal teeth whitening.
