[T213]The Art And Science Of Nursing
by Matt Adler, Mat
What is an "espalier" you may be asking yourself. The term espalier has changed over the years. Originally it defined a trellis, or a frame, to which a tree was to be tied. It presently refers to the process of training your tree or plant. The purpose of an espalier is to be able to grow a tree in limited space. The process originated with fruit trees in order to provide fruit in small gardens and courtyards. This art is now primarily used for decoration or privacy.

It is possible to purchase plants that have been espaliered; however, they are typically much more expensive than free standing plants. For the price of purchasing one espaliered plant, you could espalier two to three free standing plants on your own. Besides, performing the espalier yourself is part of the fun, although it does take some work getting it set up as well as annual maintenance.

Most espaliered plants are grown against walls where limited space is available. An example of a perfect spot would be on the side of a garage that has a walkway along the side. You may wish to hide the side of the garage, while preserving the space within the walkway. An espaliered plant will allow you to do this, as it will grow verticle, and will spread laterally along the structure, without encroaching on the path. Another perfect place for an espaliered tree is between neighbor's homes. This will provide privacy while taking up very little space as the tree begins to grow.

It is important to remember to leave between 6" and 10" of space between any walls and the plant. This will allow the roots to grow, as well as preventing bugs from having easier access to any buildings, and will also prevent trapped moisture against any structures.

A wire frame is often used in place of a trellis when planting against a wall. You can sink or screw eyebolts into the side of a building, and tie a wire frame between the eyebolts. This will need to be done in height intervals of approximately one foot. The branches will then be tied to the wires versus a wooden trellis.

It is best to start with a small tree whose branches are still flexible. This will allow them to bend, in order to be tied to the trellis or frame. "Ugly" trees are perfect to espalier. You do not need a full, thick plant, as you will have to prune several branches that sprout out in various directions.

Position and plant the tree so that the flattest side will be flush against the trellis. Doing this should limit the amount of pruning necessary. Tie the leader branch (the primary verticle branch) to the trellis or wire frame with a twist tie or zip tie.

With the leader branch tied, prune away any branches that protrude forward or backward. This will leave you with branches sprouting laterally to the sides, running along the trellis or wire frame. Once the tree has been pruned, begin tying the laterals to the frame at approximately 45 degree angles from the ground. Do not put too much pressure on the branches to bend. Once all of the lateral branches are tied, you have started your very own espalier, for a fraction of the cost of purchasing one at a retail store.

An espaliered tree will require annual maintenance as it continues to grow. The second year you should be able to lower the laterals that were originally tied at 45 degree angles to a horizontal position, i.e. parallel to the ground, and retie them in the lower position. New growth should be tied in at 45 degree angles. Any branches that cannot be trained due to sprouting out forward or backward will have to be pruned.

You will repeat the process each year of moving the 45 degree laterals down to a horizontal position, and tying new growth in at 45 degrees, or pruning the new growth. As the tree grows you will be able to fill in any empty spaces in the frame.

Have you ever been let down by a MLM company, whether they got shut down for business practices that werent above board, or the FDA didnt like the product. Have you ever been involved with a company and by no fault of your own they go under. If youve never experienced either of these events, I am extremely happy for you, but it is likely that if you never have, one such disappointment may be right around the corner.

One of the most popular questions that I get all of the time is simply, Jon how do these big time MLMers manage to go from company to company and keep their group? And seem to make more money with each transition? Folks that question is of profound importance because if you plan on making a lifelong career of this bidness, youre going to need to know that you may have to change companies once or twice. The answer behind these cash creating MLM dynamos ability to move their group at will has to do with MASS CONTROL.

If youve followed along with each lesson, youve now got a great perspective on the importance of systems, and the need for duplication, and the need to lead with you as the expert and maintain positioning, and those systems combined are what is necessary to have MASS CONTROL. No big MLM success will ever tell you this out in the open, but if you ever get to the friend level with one of them, they will share with you that what youre selling, what you want someone to buy into isnt the product, and it isnt even the company, its YOU. This realization allows the heavy hitters to build systems around themselves that build their following and do so by promoting them, their expertise, and their knowledge not the company or the product. This is of key importance, DONT MISS THIS.

If you make the mistake of creating all of your systems to be company specific or product specific, friend you are on the losing end of the battle. If something were to change with the company or product, youve lost your group because you had them buying into the company or the product, over which you have no control however if you have them buying into you, and position yourself correctly, they will follow you everywhere, no matter what the company is, or what the product is because they identify with YOU! If you currently have systems in place that are company or product specific, do yourself a favor and STOP!

Why spend your hard earned and important marketing dollars on increasing the exposure for the company, use it to promote yourself. Why put people through a process that simply puts the product on a pedestal and doesnt position you as anything but the dullard that pointed them to the website. Are you beginning to see how so much of the industry is build on principles that havent worked since the 1980s when it was in its infancy?

In order to have your retirement taken care of and truly have the opportunity to enjoy a residual income for the rest of your life, you MUST create a group that follows you and the opportunities that you align with, not one company or product. This idea of MASS CONTROL is simply about creating the largest group possible that meet you, like you, and want to work with you. And if you pay close attention to the concepts that I have shared with you, youll be able to design a system in no time (or use mine) and begin building YOUR empire, not the empire of some company that is where real security in this industry comes from, and anyone that tells you differently is probably trying to keep this concept a secret.

You see, I couldve made this entire mini-course the same drabble that you get from every supposed guru, or the same rah rah stuff you get at every company convention. I could have told you to make a list of your friends and family, say your goals out loud every day while standing on your head, rely on the law of attraction to flood your life with wealth and such, but I didnt. I made the choice to share with you a system and method of building the opportunity you choose that literally has taken me years, blood, sweat and tears to compile.

So youre asking yourself, Why in the heck are you sharing it? Well it is pretty simple. One because I am tired of seeing an industry that I love and believe in reduced to the status of used car salesman on crack, and two because I believe that if I have enough people using the system and experiencing success I will be able to achieve my dream of changing the 3% success rate in the MLM industry.

Friend, the American Dream is alive and well, and it is available to anyone who recognizes that success leaves clues, and being willing to implement those findings. The country right now may be unsure about oil prices, food shortages, political unrest, illegal immigration, and a whole bunch of other issues, but NOT me. I believe that thanks to this industry and the systems Ive designed, anyone that wants better will have an opportunity to achieve it, and I sincerely hope that this mini-course has prompted you to want more, be more, do more, and have more. Feel free to email me your thoughts and Ill look forward to making some new friends as well.
