Creating stunning items of jewellery to wear is a joy with art clay silver. Art Clay is a clay like substance that can be fashioned like clay to create jewellery. When the art clay is fired, on a gas hob for example, some of the compound is burnt away to leave behind a silver pendent, a charm, earrings, cufflinks, a ring or whatever it is that you created.

One way of achieving a professional looking item of jewellery is to use a silicon metal clay mould. Due to the composition and texture of the Metal Clay, it is very well suited to being used in moulds. The metal clay moulds are manufactured from high quality silicon, which ensures longevity as well as increasing definition and detail to the finished piece. The art clay moulds are easy to use and there are many different designs available to choose from.

Begin by pressing the art clay into the mould using your fingers. You should press the clay down and out toward the side of the mould. Use an acrylic roller to roll over the clay to even out the thickness.
To ensure that the back of the mould will be flat and even you can scrape away any excess with the side of a plastic spacer. Also remove any excess from outside the design.

There are two methods for using the moulds - Removing before drying and Drying in the moulds. The result is the same, but some people have different preferences depending on what works best for them. 'Removing before drying' can reduce or even eliminate the need for filing and sanding later.

Other clay products, such as polymer clay need to be work in a particular method, but with art clay discretion is left to personal preference.

With good care moulds can be used and reused. To clean the moulds just wash with a very mild detergent and dry. Do not use wash in a dishwasher or use any sharp objects to remove clay or dirt from the moulds.
