[T342]The Bionic Woman 1976
by Groshan Fabiola, Gro
In the same way the latest version of Battlestar Galactica was presented to be a re-imagining rather than a continuation of the original sci-fi series, the upcoming 21st century franchise of the Bionic Woman will feature a new storyline that will have its main character, Jaime Sommers, looking for other half-human, half-robot beings.

The circumstances that transforms the beautiful woman into an incredibly strong machine-like (but still beautiful) heroine has also been written differently, with a millionaire named Jonas Bledsoe spending an enormous amount of money to “revitalize" Sommers.

Which totally begs the question, “What kind of Bionic Woman can the fans expect to see?" In the original series, Sommers developed heightened senses and incredible strength. But with the birth of new technology (and don’t forget the huge expenses), will the Bionic Woman be modernized?

Modernization is the key word here, ladies and gentlemen, and considering the fact that the man behind this venture is none other than Battlestar Galactica’s executive producer David Eick, expectations are quite high. Perhaps this latest version of the 1976 series can feature a Bionic Woman who not only has the ability to hear every minute and distant sound, but also has the capability to juggle her career and relationships with saving people from danger.

Another interesting angle that this story could take is if the Bionic Woman were to go through an emotional conflict with regards to starting her own family. Many sub-plots, which can tackle modern-day issues that women from around the world deal with everyday, can be integrated into this conflict. One issue could be the inability to produce one’s own offspring (assuming that the Bionic Woman, with all the “repair" that she’s undergone, will be rendered infertile), while another issue could be about finding the right man who will understand, love and accept a woman for who she is. With all the possible plot lines, the latest version of Bionic Woman will not only serve as modern representation of a 1970’s heroine, but also a more relatable role model for the women of today.
