Scooby Doo is a long running animated series which was initially produced for Saturday morning television in the year 1969 and is running till the present day. The earlier series, which was known as Scooby Doo, where are you, was produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and written by writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears for CBS where it was first aired.
There are in total mainly five characters present in the gang. These feature Scooby-Doo who is a talking dog and four other teenagers: Fred Jones, Daphne, Velma, and Shaggy Rogers.
The first TV show of Scooby Doo, "What a night for a knight" was aired in USA on CBS in 1969 and went on till 1976, with a total of 350 episodes.
Scooby Doo and his 4 friends drive a van called Mystery Machine and solve the mysteries involving mainly ghosts and other evil supernatural powers. Most of the times they get into a big trouble.
Scooby Doo and his best buddy, Shaggy are the most coward ones and they only get into deep trouble in their gang. Being bribed by Velma or Fred for a Scooby snack, a dog biscuit which surprisingly even shaggy likes, though he is not tempted by one but two Scooby snacks at least.
They both go after the villains but the evil character that they were after gets them first. Scooby has some problem with his pronunciation and tends to pronounce most of the words as if they start with the letter R, calling his friend Shaggy as "Raggy".
The later versions of the show also feature Scooby Dum, a far cousin of Scooby and Scrappy Doo, who is a nephew of Scooby, small but very much courageous.
This cartoon is fun filled, adventurous, and full of ghosts and ghouls where each tale in the end comes out with a rational explanation, being solved by Velma and Fred, the mastermind of the gang.
The later episodes which were aired after this series were "A pup named Scooby Doo" and "What's new Scooby Doo" The series after 1976 was again broadcasted on ABC, which aired the show until its cancellation in 1986.
Then, another show, "A pup named Scooby Doo" was launched which aired from 1988 to 1991. The WB network then launched another updated version of the series, "What's new Scooby Doo" which ran through 2002-06. Repeats of these series are often telecasted on Cartoon Network and Boomerang.
After the grand success of the Scooby Doo series in animation, the movie Scooby Doo was launched recently. It was also loved as much as the show by the all the fans. With the hilarious moments of Scooby and Shaggy, it was loved by audience of all ages.
