[M410]Mens Athletic Walking Shoes
by Gregg Hall, Gre
For many people the first type of shoe that we think of when considering men's athletic shoes may well be tennis shoes or even a generic cross training shoe. For others they may think of a basketball shoe, it really depends upon your background. In reality this category of footwear covers a wide variety of sport and recreational shoes ranging from golf and basketball to soccer and running shoes. I usually buy cross training tennis shoes just because I am involved in a wide range of sports from running and weightlifting to playing basketball.

It seems that every time I open the Sunday paper there will be several circulars advertising sales on athletic shoes from many different famous brand names. I suggest you look around online to compare prices as well as have a good idea of what type of shoe will best suit your needs.

There are a few basic types of athletic shoes in general and one should get a good feel for what you need most before shopping.

For those who are into off road running or running in all different kinds of weather the best shoe type is the trail shoe which will give you a combination of stability and durability as well as excellent traction.

If you are on of those that tends to underpronate and you really do not need to have extra support then you can probably get by with shoes from the cushioned shoes category.

For men who are of average weight with no pronation problems who just need an athletic shoe with good support, durability and cushion they should probably go with a shoe from the stability shoe category.

The motion control category contains the most durable, rigid and controlled athletic footwear. These shoes are specifically designed to limit the condition known as overpronation.

For experienced runners who are training for races or even for those who just run a lot and have not issues with motion control or pronation they will get good results from shoes in the lightweight training category.

This list is not an end all, it is always recommended that you keep an extra pair on hand and the best practice is to buy a couple of pairs at the same time so you can alternate between them. This will make the shoes last quite a bit longer, especially if you are a runner or you do heavy weightlifting.

When you measure your feet or shop for shoes do it late in the day. This will give you the most accurate fit since due to the stress of walking all day our feet tend to swell and will be larger at the end of the day than in the morning. Don't buy shoes that are uncomfortable just because they look good or because they are a good deal.

Athletic shoes are a special part of men's clothing. Active men need shoes that are durable, lightweight and well made. Basketball shoes are typically the first thing that comes to mind when one thinks on men's athletic shoes. There are many other types of shoes besides basketball. All sport shoes for men are made basically the same with a few differences such as cleats and height.

There are also a few categories of shoes that make a difference in wear and comfort. From the cheapest shoes to the most expensive men's athletic shoes vary. It is important that you find the right shoe to fit you individual needs for training, durability and comfort.

The first category is Motion Control Shoes. These shoes are the most rigid, control orientated and durable. The normal motion of the foot is important to keep in mind when purchasing these types of shoes. The motion control shoes help limit the motion of the foot so they are not excessively moving around making injury a greater risk.

Another type of shoe category is Stability Shoes. Stability means that there is good support, cushioning, and durability. Men who are of average weight and do not have a need for motion controlled shoes will find these provide the right support.

Cushioned Shoes are ideal for those who do not have a lot of excess motion in their foot and are not in need of additional support. A man of average weight and size may find these to be appropriate for him.

Another type of shoe would be the Lightweight Training Shoes. These are very light and are intended for racing and fast paced training. Efficient runners with no motion control problems will find these are perfect for them.

Finally Trail Shoes are good for off road or inclement weather. They have extra stability for added traction. They are very durable. It is imperative to plan ahead when exercising and playing sports. Alternating your shoes is a way to give your feet a brief workout. They will rest the muscles used in the other shoes while working ones to adjust to the ones you changed into. Also your work out or sport shoes will last longer if you wear them only when needed as opposed to all the time.

Some final tips for buying men's athletic shoes are to always shop late in the day since feet tend to swell a bit as the day progresses. It is important to always measure your feet while standing; the change in size is enough to make your new shoes uncomfortable if you don't. Make sure you try on both shoes with socks on. Some people's feet are slightly different sizes. When you choose a pair always buy the size of your larger foot.

If the shoes hurt the first time you try them on then don't buy them. They will not get more comfortable later on. Before training in your new shoes break them in by wearing them around the house. If you should need to return them stores generally won't accept them after they have been worn outdoors.
