The shaking you may be feeling is not from a earthquake, but from dieter's vibrating fitness machines. According to a study presented at the European Congress on Obesity, researchers found that vibration plate exercise machines may help you lose weight, plus trim that particularly harmful belly fat found between your organs.
Scientists found that their overweight subjects who regularly used the equipment in combination with calorie restriction were more successful at long-term weight loss and shedding the fat around their abdominal organs, then those who combined dieting with a more conventional fitness routine.
Fat around your organs, sometimes referred to as brown fat, is believed to lead to a higher risk in health problems as oppose to the fat cells closer to your skin.
This is the first study to investigate the effects of vibration in obese people, and from the initial findings, the results look promising. So this finding appears to be another addition that you can add to your weight control plan.
The lead research scientist, Dirk Vissers, did emphasize that the results did not indicate that you can forego aerobic exercise and just jump on a vibrating machine. You still need a healthy diet, along with aerobic exercise. However, the scientist said that the machines may be a viable alternative to weight lifting, since, similar to lifting weights, the machine works the muscles by contracting them rapidly, a process needed to build lean muscle mass.
Vissers added that some people think that vibration machines are for lazy people. So if it feels easy, then you are not doing it properly. You have to do more than just stand there and hold the handles.
Vissers is next planning to study why vibration seems to be more effective than aerobic exercise in trimming the fat between your organs, including whether increased blood flow to the abdomen and hormonal response to vibration might play a role in breaking down fat more efficiently.
Regardless of the reason, anything that will help rid you of belly fat is a godsend. And if that means shaking things up, then bring on the vibrating fitness machines.
