[M456]Michael Jacksons Skin Disorder
by Rachel Rae, Rac
Rosacea is a skin disorder that is often mistaken for severe acne or a sign of alcoholism. For those who suffer from this disorder, it is very difficult. It is a chronic medical condition with no cure. The symptoms are very real and can cause lifelong emotional damage if left untreated and can be quite physically painful. However, the symptoms of rosacea can be managed.

What are the symptoms of rosacea? Experiencing some or all of these symptoms should really be checked out by a doctor. 1) Red or inflamed areas on the cheeks, forehead, nose, or chin 2) Visible blood vessels in the facial area or "spider veins" 3) Acne or bumpy areas on the face (that are not really acne) 4) Severe flushing that doesn't return to normal like it should 5) Watery eyes or irritated eyes sometimes 6) Facial burning sensation, sometimes very intense 7) Swelling of facial areas 8) Over time, the nose may appear extremely red and bulbous, especially in older men, also known as rhinophyma 9) Sometimes rosacea appears on the chest, scalp, ears, or neck

The cause of rosacea is not known. It seems to show up in both women and men sometime between 20 and 40 years of age. Women can sometimes become housebound if their rosacea isn't controlled. They might become ashamed and embarrassed by the ruddy appearance of their facial skin. Men are sometimes emotionally affected as well.

First and foremost to cope with rosacea, see a dermatologist who has helped others with this skin disorder. Rosacea can go into remission if you are careful to adhere to the plan recommended by your doctor. There are several lifestyle changes that can be made to ensure that the flares of rosacea won't occur as often or as severely. Limit your exposure to sun and wind. Try to keep stress levels at a low and make lifestyle changes accordingly to accommodate that. Avoid alcohol, hot drinks & spicy foods. If you enjoy a bath, use warm or cool water instead of really hot water. Try low-impact forms of exercise instead of high impact ones, which can bring on a prolonged facial flush. Try to exercise in cooler conditions or air conditioned rooms. Hot weather will worsen rosacea signs.

Some people have found some success with some home remedies containing green tea, Chrysanthellum Indicum, Niacinamide (a form of vitamin B3), or Azelaic Acid have been claimed to help rminimize the look of blood vessels and red capillaries when applied topically.

For some rosacea sufferers hot drinks and spicy foods can trigger a flare. If you find that is true for you, it's best to avoid such.

For cosmetics I like natural mineral makeup. Wearing a green color corrector type product as a base under foundation helps as green counteracts the red of the skin and works as camouflage it so it looks more natural. Try a very mild facial cleanser such as Oil of Olay sensitive skin facial cloths or Dove's version. Do not use abrasive scrubs or astringent type products. I like using for moisture Neutrogena's oil free moisturizer, and sometimes use pure emu oil.

Men should use an electric razor instead of a razor blade to shave each morning in order to reduce irritation. Follow up with a gentle light non-scented moisturizer.

Rosacea can be a debilitating skin disorder, but it doesn't have to be. With proper treatment and lifestyle adjustments, it can greatly help reduce symptoms.

ome people figure that a skin disorder is something that has to be serious, like severe psoriasis or skin cancer. Truth is, a skin disorder can be less threatening than that. For example, some skin conditions are limited to the topical surface of the skin, while others sink deeper into skin tissues, and right on down to the muscle tissue. Knowing what types of skin disorders there are, and being able to identify some of the most common ones, may help keep your skin, and underlying tissues and organs, healthy and free from disease.

When most people think of skin disorders, they think rashes, shingles, perhaps severe acne and even things like ringworm and measles. Would you consider athlete's foot a skin disorder? Well, it is, and is caused by a fungal infection, as is Candida and ringworm. Other skin disorders or conditions may be edema, melasma, various types of rashes and age spots. While some of these are common, many others aren't, and knowing what's what can save you worry and money on treatments that just don't work.

Moles are typically normal spots no bigger than a pencil eraser and are usually round, or close to it in shape. Normal moles are typically found in various shades of brown or pink and are nothing to be alarmed about. However, if a mole shows irregular edges and is larger than a pencil eraser, it's a good idea to go have it looked at. Dangerous or cancerous moles are often black, gray or blue, and one half usually doesn't match the other half of the mole.

In addition to moles, other skin disorder issues may be caused by insect bites or allergies. Some of the most common are those caused by the brown recluse spider. The bites from this tiny spider can become severely infected, causing extensive tissue damage if not treated properly and promptly. Scabies is another temporary skin disorder caused by an insect that looks like a wavy line that ends in a red bump.

Various types of dermatitis can produce skin disorder concerns if not recognized and treated, such as several forms known as eczema, perioral or stasis dermatitis. All of these cause inflammation, redness, and itching. Poison ivy is another type of temporary skin disorder caused by a plant.

Some of the most common types of skin disorder found among children are German measles, measles, chicken pox and diaper rash. Each of these produces inflammation, redness and itching that react well to topical ointments and creams. When in doubt as to the cause or treatment of any unusual skin disorder, it's best to obtain the advise of a doctor or nurse practitioner before attempting to self-treat. Many skin issues start off small, and if misdiagnosed, may cause trouble further down the line.

Being able to differentiate between different types of any skin disorder will enable those suffering from them to obtain prompt and proper treatment, and encourage healthy lifestyles that serve not only as preventions, but remedies to skin problems that afflict millions every day.
