[M587]Modified Race Cars For
by Menorca, Men
There's only the one solitary golf course in Menorca, Son Parc, which surprises a lot of tourists given how well known Spain is for golf holidays. But that's typical Menorca - just one but it's of championship quality, easily accessible from all of the island's holiday resorts, and the Son Parc area has a good collection of hotels and villas to choose from.

Even more of a surprise was when news agencies started to report the arrival of Formula One teams on the island. No less than McLaren, Honda and Ferrari all sent their cars before the start of the F1 season to test.

But for Menorca, the peaceful Spanish vacation island, it was a pleasant surprise, and the world of F1 has been well and truly welcomed.

Locals watched on as Lewis Hamilton tested his McLaren at the Aeroclub de Mahon, perfect for straight line testing, which is why Menorca has been chosen by F1 teams - along with the Menorca weather. Local people are more used to seeing holidaymakers on their flights to Menorca in the summer at Mahon International Airport than the world's best drivers at the nearby private airfield the F1 teams are using.

And perhaps some of the Menorca holidays magic rubbed off on Lewis in the first race of this years Grand Prix season - he won the Australian Grand Prix and set himself up to challenge for this year's driver championship in the process.

And it's not just the McLaren team and Britain's Lewis Hamilton who tested in Menorca - Italy's Ferrari did too, and maybe some of the holiday island's magic rubbed off on them too as Massa won the third Grand Prix of the season in Bahrain.

And while the world of F1 might be new to Menorca, and Menorca new to F1 - the island does have some other fine sporting facilities to offer tourists when they visit for a holiday.

One example is the golf course at Son Parc. Although it is the only golf course on the island it is championship standard and for golfers it is ideal as it has closeby Menorca holiday villas, apartments and hotels, just a short stroll from the clubhouse. The course is a full 18 hole.

Menorca's top holiday villages apart from Son Parc are Cala en Porter, Binibeca, Cala'n Bosch, Arenal, Es Castell, Punta Prima and Son Bou. Son Bou has the longest sandy beach in Menorca, while Cala En Porter has a good bay generally regarded as a safe swimming area, and is a favourite for families who take Menorca holidays.

The Menorca holidays market has been boosted recently from the island's main UK market with the announcement from two different airlines that they are laying on extra flights this summer to Mahon Airport, not just from London Gatwick but other regional airports throughout the UK. Just an hour and a half flight away from the UK Menorca is ideally situated for a Mediterranean holiday, tourists either stay in one of the Menorca hotels, or alternatively have a villa holiday.

The peak months of the year for Menorca hotels and the holiday industry is, like many other holiday islands, early July to end August. But for people who can choose when to take their vacations, the best month to visit Menorca is June. The island is still quiet but all the holiday resorts are up and running, and good deals for flights to Menorca and villas as well as the Menorca hotels can be found in June. Other good times to visit are May, and for the end of the season anytime between the second week of September and the first week of October.

And if the two worlds of holidays and fast cars collide - Menorca has shown it can be good news for visitor numbers!

Why Lightweight Race Hoses are Best

Using a lightweight hose can reduce the overall weight of a race car, which is critical even when racing in a class with minimum weight limits. Racing hoses, often called "plumbing lines," allow mechanics to shave off weight and help the car reach its full racing potential. Race hoses might seem to be a little thing, but when added up, there can be as much as 40 feet of tubing installed in the usual stock car that has a dry-sump oiling system. There are fuel lines, water coolant lines, power steering, oil lines, etc. - and each can be tweaked to your advantage!

Many companies are developing lightweight race hoses with stainless steel braiding or an alternative Aramid Fibre braiding. Goodridge, for example, developed the G-Line XF flexible PTFE hose, which incorporates all the benefits of both convoluted and smooth bore designs. This type of hose is convoluted on the exterior, but smooth on the interior. It allows for a weight savings of up to 10 percent, provides higher flow rates and pressure ratings, and is carbon impregnated. There are several variations of the G-Line hose to meet specific needs, such as the fully convoluted G-Line hose.

And, don't forget the hose fittings! The weight of hose fittings can make a difference in performance as well. Hose fittings come in various shapes, sizes, and bends to fit any type of race hose. The hose fittings can be permanent, adjustable, swiveling, or re-usable. Look for hose fittings made of anodised aluminum; these are lightweight and reliable. Goodridge offers a wide range of hose fittings for its race hoses, including a G-Line Hydraulic swage/crimp machine for mechanics that want to create their own custom race hoses and fittings.

Things to Consider

Before choosing races hoses and hose fittings, look for features that meet the needs of your car. Consider temperature and pressure resistance as well as the overall flow rate. Be sure the hose is lightweight without sacrificing quality, and check for compatibility with the fittings and type of fuel you plan to use. The hose should also be easy to clean.

Save Money on Hoses and Fittings by Planning Ahead

Plan ahead when installing your hoses and fittings to be sure they will fit properly so you won't have to cut and re-size them or re-order them later. Re-ordering high quality hoses and fittings can get to be very expensive. To prepare for installation, be sure all racing hardware is in the proper place, such as the oil tank, fuel cell, oil pump, coolant reservoir, and filter. Any hardware that will be attached to a race hose and/or hose fitting should be double-checked for proper positioning before getting started to save time and money later.

With online resources, it's easy to find and purchase the types of races hoses and fittings you need. There are online stores that carry brand name custom race hoses, AN fittings, and other racing products at reasonable prices. You can save time and money by taking advantage of online retailers or by using the Internet as a tool for your research. Look for top quality race hose name brands such as Goodridge to ensure excellent racing performance.
