[O374]Over The Counter Scabies Treatment
by Jackb Son, Jac
Scabies is a skin infection caused by infestation with scabies mites. The mite responsible for causing scabies in humans is called sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Although today there aren't any effective ways of preventing scabies from occurring, the condition can be easily treated. In the past, people considered that scabies was developed only due to improper hygiene. However, hygiene has nothing to do with the condition; scabies can be developed by anyone, regardless of the level of hygiene.

Fortunately, there are medicated lotions that are very effective treatments for scabies. These scabies treatments will eliminate the scabies rash within a day or two. It is important though to make sure the treatment you use also kills the scabies eggs, or the infestation will begin again when they hatch.

The accuracy and the speed of diagnosis have a very important role in the treatment of scabies. Considering that scabies produces a wide variety of non-specific symptoms (rash and skin inflammation are also symptoms of other skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis or chicken pox), doctors may sometimes decide upon an erroneous diagnosis if they only rely on patients? reports of symptoms and clinical examinations. Scabies can be properly diagnosed only after finding clear signs of infestation with scabies mites.

A scabies rash can look like red bumps, pimples or little blisters. They may be in the webs of fingers and wrist areas. These areas are often checked first by doctors and dermatologists to do a rash diagnosis. Scabies can be quite itchy due to the allergic reaction. Scratching the itch can result in a secondary rash such as eczema dermatitis or a bacterial skin rash problem.

The proper scabies treatment is with creams, lotions and medication to relief you from the itching sensation that accompanies scabies. The most common scabies medication is permethrin cream. This cream kills scabies mites. It must be applied on all the body parts that are affected by scabies and left on for more than 12 hours. The best time to apply the scabies cream is at night, just before going to bed.

One excellent natural treatment to kill scabies involves tea tree oil. This Australian oil has, in recent years, been hailed as a wonder treatment for all manner of conditions. It has very powerful natural antiseptic and insecticidal properties and is considered to be very safe. If you add 20 drops of oil to an average sized bath of warm water and soak in it up to your neck for 15 minutes, this can not only help kill scabies but will soothe skin which has been made sore by scratching. In addition, it is beneficial to apply diluted tea tree oil directly to the worst affected areas by putting a few drops on a cotton wool ball or pad.

Scabies natural treatments with neem and turmeric should be applied locally, on the skin. You should apply the treatment on the entire skin, not only on the regions that are visibly affected by scabies. Scabies natural treatments with neem and Turmeric are very well tolerated by the skin and are able to completely eradicate the mites in a short period of time. The majority of patients that have been treated with neem and turmeric completely recovered from the condition after two weeks.

Scabies trace its name to the Latin word scabere which means to scratch. And scratching is one of the most common symptoms of this condition. The itching feeling caused by this condition is brought about by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei as first showed by Diacinto Cestoni, an Italian biologist. The intense and the itchy skin rashes that can be seen on the patient with scabies starts to shown when the impregnated female gets into the stratum corneum of the person's skin and there the female mite deposits the egg in the burrow.

The eggs that will turn into larvae hatch after three to five days and will then move into the skin and then molt. Once the molting has been successful, these will then turn into adult mites. The itch that can be experienced by a person with scabies is due to the action and the movement of the mites in the skin and these shows on the skin as an allergic appearance. The eggs produced by the mites produce allergic response that creates that extreme itching on the skin.

Scabies can be transferred from one person to the next thru skin to skin contact. In some cases, this condition can be passed thru sexual contact. Scabies will usually show on the skin of the person as small red bumps and blisters and these can be seen mostly on the webs between the fingers, the wrists and the back of the elbows. This can be seen as w ell on the knees, around the waist, the areas around the nipples, the sides and the back of the feet, buttocks and the genitals.

This condition on the skin can be treated by use of medications. The first type of treatment is topical treatment. Examples of drugs that can be used as treatment are the Permethrin, Eurax, Malathion, Lindane and ten percent sulfur ointment. The Malathion is often applied on the affected area for 24 hours and helps in killing the adult mites and the eggs.

The Lindane drug on the other hand is used on the patients where Permethrin has failed. The use of Lindane is approved for use by the FDA and the agency called this drug as safe and effective. There are no serious side effects that can be attributed to the drug and if there may be some side effects on a person that that could be due to product misuse. This drug is recognized and registered for use in 50 countries and also in a restricted-use status in 33 of these countries. If the Lindane will be used on the affected area of the skin, it is recommended that the drug should be washed off with warm water in order to avoid absorption through the skin.

Oral treatment is also suggested on a person that has scabies. Based on some research, a single dose of the ivermectin has been found to cure scabies. And based on comparisons that were done, this drug and Lindane has little or almost no differences. When itchiness is severe, the use of antihistamines is recommended as well.
