[P47]Panic Attacks During Sleep
by Robert A. Meyer, Rob

You may wonder what causes panic attacks. If you are one of those unfortunate individuals who suffer from them you're mainly concerned about how to get rid of them. In order to find relief from panic effects it's important to understand what causes them and how to find permanent relief these unwelcome attacks.

You've heard about the “fight or flight” response. The rush of adrenaline you receive from a threat to your life is a necessary survival mechanism. This was especially so back in days of old when an attack from a vicious carnivore could very well end a person's life. Unfortunately, in our modern society it is the many stressful situations you're subjected to that threaten your sanity and peace of mind.

What are some of the symptoms of a panic attack.

1. Sudden terror. When you experience terror, you feel as if your life is in danger. The sufferer of these horrible attacks sometime feels as if he or she actually is close to death. A loved one witnessing a panic attack fears the same result.

2. A Feeling of Unreality. Can you imagine how frightening it is to feel disconnected from reality?

3. Chest pains and difficulty breathing. When your chest tightens up and you suddenly find it difficult to breathe, the terror only increases.

4. Tingling in your hands and feet. This can make you believe you're having a heart attack.

Let me offer you some solutions to help you eliminate panic attacks. Now, I can't guarantee the first three solutions eliminate them—but they'll definitely help improve your health, peace of mind and quality of life. Now that alone could reduce the amount of attacks you experience. The fourth solution I offer is unique and effective.

Exercise

I know. Remaining on an exercise program is difficult because it's time consuming and downright unpleasant. From a personal point of view, I can definitely state I enjoy exercising.

You need all the help you can get in finding permanent relief from debilitating anxiety. The healthier your body is—the better you withstand stressful situations. I recommend exercising at least 4 days per week.

Proper Diet

What you put in your body determines how you feel physically. Certain types of food are known to increase stress in your system. If you're polluting your body with fast food during the day and junk food in the evening, you definitely won't respond to stressful situations very effectively.

Anyway, balance in life gives you the highest level of satisfaction. You experience optimum health by consuming the correct balance of fats, proteins and carbohydrates.

Here's what's wonderful. You don't have to sacrifice your eating pleasures. Pay attention to what your body tells you. It will guide you in the right direction.

Meditation

Most people meditate for the spiritual benefits. Did you know daily meditation offers many health benefits?

Here they are.

• Lower heart rate
• Lowered levels of cortisol and lactate which reduces stress
• Reduced cholesterol levels
• Decreased blood pressure

Obviously, the above benefits go along way towards helping you reduce the frequency and severity of your unwanted attacks.

Permanent Relief from Panic Attacks

Here it is. The solution you've been seeking. Now, even though what follows offers you a permanent cure—you still need to follow the above recommendations. Your health, happiness and quality life are precious values you want to obtain and keep. Without supreme health and physical fitness, nothing else much matters.

Imagine this. You no longer suffer the dizzy spells leading to panic. The tingling sensations that accompany your racing heart become fading memories. You no longer experience hot flashes because the waves of anxiety that caused them are permanently gone. You finally realize anxiety will never again threaten your life by pushing you over the edge.

Now not only imagine these wonderful happenings, but also believe they are true—because help is on the way. Have you heard of Joe Barry's "Panic Away?” His “One Move Technique” supplies you permanent relief from panic attacks.

Imagine sitting in the gymnasium at your child's school while you're having a full-blown panic attack. There are people all around you and if you get up to leave the gym everyone will be staring at you. Your heart is racing a million miles a minute. Your face and body are drenched in sweat from heat to toe like you've just run a marathon. What a nightmare!

Unfortunately, I don't have to imagine this because I lived it. This happened to me in the spring of 2005 and was the worst panic attack I'd ever experienced. I felt utterly humiliated as other parents that I knew sat beside me and wondered what the heck was wrong with me.

To me the only thing I could do at that moment was lie, so I told other parents that I was having trouble with hormones and hot flashes. I felt sure I couldn't admit that I was having a panic attack because these people would think I was "crazy". My child went to school with their children, who would sometimes come over to my home. There was no way I could admit the truth.

The only two people to whom I ever confessed my panic attack problem were my sister and my best friend. That holds true to this day, even eight months after I found a cure for my panic attacks and no longer struggle with this issue. However, the stigma is still there.

What is it about anxiety disorders or panic attacks that make people afraid to speak out about them? Anxiety sufferers are afraid that they'll be seen as weak or that people will look at them differently. It's ironic that when people have a physical illness such as kidney problems that they have no problem discussing it with others. But when you bring a problem that can be viewed as a "mental illness" into the picture, people shut up like clams.

I'm not personally convinced that anxiety disorders can be classified as a mental illness as the problem has less to do with brain activity and more to do with the nervous system. The "fight or flight" mechanism is usually out of whack in anxiety patients and needs to be re-set so that the body can produce normal physical reactions to trigger events.

So are you in denial about your panic attacks? How many people are you going to lie to before you finally get help for this problem?

I don't recommend confiding to your inner circle of friends unless you're absolutely positive that you'll get the support you deserve. I can't imagine anything worse than not being taken seriously about this issue.

However, you might be surprised at the response you get if you share your secret. You may discover a new ally in your panic attack problem.
For example I was surprised to learn that my best friend struggled with panic attacks as well after I finally confided in her about mine. It was very comforting to me to be able to discuss this problem with someone without feeling like I would be viewed as unstable.

Panic attacks are just that: a problem. It's not a disease and you don't have a mental illness. Panic attacks affect millions of people from all walks of life. You are not alone. Do some research online and you'll find user groups and online information waiting to be discovered. If you don't want to open up to someone in person you may find an online friend that is struggling with the same condition.

So don't give up. There is a cure for you. Take the first step so you can find it.
