I do have to say that there is huge value to being able to 100% focus all your time and energy on your new home based business, and the rewards will mean that you business will grow exponentially by being full time over working your business part-time. There is one caveat to this; you need to use all your new 'full time' time commitment to really apply to your business - and I mean REALLY apply your energies in a focused way. I have helped people who have gone from part-time to full time with their new businesses and this increased time input has resulted in them being less 'effective and productive' when they are full time than they did when they were part-time. "How is this possible?" I hear you say - it's a common issue many self-employed individuals have when they suddenly make the decision to run their business on 100% of their time; they suddenly fill their days with 'stuff' that is ineffective and unproductive to their business; ultimately their putting in the hours but not actually doing the things that will improve and increase their incomes. Some people have said to me "I'm doing more hours but my business isn't increasing", and the key reason is that yes the hours maybe being put in, but how productively those hours are being used is the key. There are only TWO reasons why someone doesn't get the increase in business as they should... 1. They are doing the wrong things OR 2. They are simply not doing enough of the right things. My information is intended to help you not make the mistakes to do the wrong things when you run a business working from home, so if when you go from part-time to full time you don't get the growth in your business with all these extra hours being put in, it's likely you are simply not doing enough of the right things with all your additional hours you're now inputting. It's really easy to be 'busy being busy' but the real key is to identify what actions in your business really make you the money and try to do those particular actions as often as you can throughout your working day and week. Get into the habit of questioning your actions by saying to yourself "is what I'm doing now really help me to grow my business AND income?" and answer the question to yourself with full honesty. It's not enough to just 'think' what you're doing is helping your business - is that action clearly and unquestionably improving your income? Because if it's not, dump it and get on with something that is! It's all too easy to get into the pattern of being busy without being effective. The key is to stay focused on all the things that improve your income, and dump or put on the back-burner all the things that distract you from doing the things that increase your income.
How you manage your time can make or break your home based business. Distractions are perhaps the biggest contributer to lost time. Some of these distractions include too much time on the Internet or television, or even phone calls or chores around the house. If you have a family, yes, you will have additional demands but you still must be able to set aside time for your business.
To be able to succeed at time management and your home business, you will need a few things.
First, it's important to have your own space. A spare bedroom makes a good home office or use a corner in a room. Having a well organized space of your own is all you need. However, as mentioned before, if you choose to work in the room with the TV or kids playing, these distractions will steal your time away.
You need to schedule time daily to work your home business. Don't just think about it, actually write it down. Being able to devote an hour or two to your business on weekdays may mean skipping TV, especially if you work full time and only have evening to spend with your home business. If there are others living with you, be sure to let them know when you need to work and ask them only to call on you if there is an emergency. Find out what works and do it consistently each day.
Now, be sure to get the training needed to succeed with your home business. If possible, get someone who can coach you. This mentor will be able to keep you focused on your goals as well as give you the training you'll need. When it comes to getting a good business education, don't skimp here. This is an area that can really propel you up and onward.
Be sure that you also have a To Do list. Either the night before or that morning, write down the things you want to get done that day. Write down five or six different tasks, things that will move your business forward. For example, create a new blog or website or write an article. After completing an item on your list, put a check mark next to it and if you didn't get everything done, simply put those on the next days list.
Finally, market your business. In other words, do the actual activity needed to make money. Those activities are posting ads, writing and submitting articles, posting to blogs or doing whatever method you are using to market your product or service. Just be sure that you add something new everyday. The majority of your time needs to be spent on marketing because again, that's what brings in the money.
Remember, set up your own work space, stay on a time schedule, have good training and a mentor if possible, write down your To Do list and market consistenly spending most of your time in this area and you will have success meaning a growing income.
