[P117]Pay For My Car
by Robert D. Thomson, Rob
The car repair industry in the U.K may be changing due to a new groundbreaking site, namely Shouldpay.co.uk. Shouldpay is the first site set up to show how much people should expect to pay for car repair work. It uses historical price data from garages all over the U.K to give an accurate assessment of how much consumers should pay for various car repair jobs. The service is completely free and all the prices are specific to your exact car and the area you live in.

Rigourous testing showed that the software was 95% accurate and the feedback from thousands of consumers has been amazing. Graeme Wingate, managing director of Shouldpay said in a recent interview " in the new era of comparison services, it was inevitable that this type of comparison software would become available to the public, we are just happy that it is Shouldpay that got there first and set the standard for others to follow."

The repair costs calculator produces a printable price estimate broken down into parts and labour for the consumer to scan and if necessary take to their garage. Most people have a story about being overcharged by a garage, and while most garages are very honest and fair, this should help to weed out the small percentage that still overcharge their customers.

Graeme had thought of the idea many months ago but setting up the system took longer than expected and in total after six full months of manually inputing over 60,000 prices and jobs, it was completed and launched in February 2008. "It was a huge and monotonous task, and had we known the extent of the task before we started it we may have had second thoughts about taking it on at all" joked Graeme.

"There were easier ways to get all the data into the site, but the way we did it ensures that the software is near impossible to replicate so it was worth the extra effort."

Shouldpay.co.uk have promised even more groundbreaking developments to come in the near future with a new service due to launch in July 2008 that they believe will revolutionize the way people go about choosing a garage and getting their car repaired.
