[O108]On The London Eye
by Sarah Maple.., Sar
Whoever markets the London Eye is a genius. There is not one single occasion that's is not catered for or covered in some way. You can spend Christmas on the London Eye, have a hen party and even get married in one of the huge glass balls that swirl above London's skyline. Yes, I do admit that when I first saw the wedding package I smiled inwardly at the blatant opportunism of the idea, deciding instantly that I could never possibly be interested by that sort of thing. Yet after looking at the photos and reading about the deluxe, gold and platinum wedding packages I must admit I was well and truly seduced. The website is beautifully designed and easy to navigate. It is clean and minimalist, including gorgeous atmospheric photos of the Eye and the panoramic views from the capsules. The classy writing makes even the tackiest seeming suggestions sound positively fascinating. After reading about the "private capsule experience", "Cupid's Capsule" and the "Vinopolis Wine Tasting Capsule" I am overcome with a wave of "I want I want I want!" I even want a child so that I can have a children's party capsule complete with Curly Wurly cake. The Eye offers package deals that are also available from London Eye website, which handily features other popular attractions such as Madame Tussauds and the London Dungeon. The London Eye has partner hotels that are recommended on the website. They include the County Hall Premier Inn, the Park Plaza Riverbank (a bit of a mouthful to pronounce) and the Marriot County Hall Hotel. The latter of whom the London Eye uses for honeymoon accommodation as part of its gold and platinum wedding package.I checked out a few independent reviews of the rather expensive but perfectly situated hotels. I will point out that although the Marriot County Hall Hotel is referred to on the London Eye's website as "Five Star" it is actually a four star hotel. TripAdvisor gives an overall review of four out of five. The cheaper County Hall Premier Inn has higher ratings of 4 and ½ on the same website with rave reviews and titles such as: "Brilliant location" and "Excellent for families." The Park Plaza Riverbank also has been given four stars but many pf the guests seem to have been complaining of noise and inhospitable staff. Also because the name is such a mouthful I would go for one of the other two.I fully intend to visit the London Eye the next time I get to enjoy a weekend off work; unfortunately I think I will have to stand in line with the rest of London's mere peasant tourists who can't afford the ?25 fast track fee.

All visitors to London are spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding which attractions to visit. Top of most peoples lists is 'Buckingham Palace', along with other historic landmarks such as the Tower of London. However, not all of the landmarks worth visiting in London are historic; one of the newest attractions is less than ten years old, the 'London Eye'.

The London Eye is one of the largest observation wheels in the world today. When it was first built it was the tallest but two more wheels have been built since the London Eye opened and both are taller. The Eye as it is also known is very popular as it is an 'all weather' attraction. One can see many of the landmarks of London all from the top of the London Eye. The Eye is also known as the Millennium Wheel.

The London Eye was opened on December 31, 1999 by the then Prime Minister, Tony Blair. It was not open to the public though until March 2000 because of technical problems. The London Eye was built to commemorate the dawn of the new millennium, and this is why it also became known as the Millennium Wheel. The wheel design was used as a metaphor for the turning of the century.

The eye has approximately 32 capsules which are capable of holding 25 people per capsule. It is located within Jubillee Gardens on the South Bank of the River. The London Eye was the vision of architects David Marks and Julia Barfield (a husband and wife team). The Eye is the perfect sight seeing attraction because on a clear day you can see for up to 25 miles across the city.

If you are planning a romantic evening then why not book a private capsule and take advantage of one of the many packages the Eye to offer. There will be a huge choice of food and drink for you to choose from for your perfect evening. To make the evening even more special those who pre-book have priority boarding,k so no waiting in queues.

The London Eye has the best panoramic view of London on offer. From the top of The Eye, one can see attractions from 360 degrees. The first landmarks you notice are the nearest; Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament.

London is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, and one of the most cosmopolitan. It has attractions to suit everyone including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Natural History Museum and the Natural History Museum.

London has more than one airport so traveling to London via aeroplane is no problem for the international traveler. Once in London the easiest and quickest way to get around is via the London Underground. The Underground has tube stations located all over the city and there is always at least one tube station near to an attraction.
