What used to be hours and many minutes have now been converted to few minutes or seconds. That is what the world of entertainment has become: sound bytes, flash videos, and instant gratification.
. Even those kinds of videos have made their way through the buzzing cyber-wires. But, I am most excited about two others kinds of development.
The focussed capsule of entertainment is one of the first fallouts of online videos. So, you know exactly what to expect. And when you get it, you know you got it. This is akin to the bite-sized, some would call it fun-sized candy bar.
The web does not make videos, but is sures makes distribution real easy. Sure, the Internet does not create videos, but it sure seems to encourage their production. So, now, everyone is a producer. And while they are at it, a director, an actor, a scriptwriter, a screenplay writer, and a voice over artist.
Initially, I was worried that online videos would turn out to be garbage. It is refreshing to see the take of these new digital creators. In fact, online videos have become the eyes of the world with enthusiasts rapidly shooting everything that needs to be shot.
We are on the threshold of a great new worl for online videos. In addition to production qualities getting slicker, I think we are also in for a more meaningful discourse coming through. This will probably be aided by the fact that many erstwhile free video-sharing sites might actually end up paying video producers.
If that happens, there will be a fresh new lease of life to producers and the flow could be so strong that what we have now would seem like a trickle.
If all that I am saying is not connecting, please do visit any entertainment site. Most of them will have online videos that you can watch for free. If the site actually makes editorial decisions in choosing the videos to display, the quality of videos would shoot up.
Everyone has their favorites, I lke bloopers. I don't know what is wrong with me, but there is some exceptional pleasure in watching people accidentally make a fool of themselves! Sorry, I know that is kind of mean, but hey, it is funny, what can I say?
If you somehow missed this entire phenomenon, get going now. Watch a few online videos.
Youtube innovative concept, opened up a new world of online videos upload and storage where netizens could freely share their video files for free of cost. No wonder, within months since its introduction, YouTube mania caught up with netizens around the world like a raging wild fire that the portal became one of the most visited websites in the cyberspace in the matter of less than a year. While some people used it as a medium to share their fun video collection with other netizens, others saw YouTube as an effective medium to promote their online businesses worldwide. Further, creative people used it as a sounding board to introduce their creations to the public, or to reach to them, to a little extend at least, academic related videos are also uploaded into YouTube by various sources for enabling free access to interested students.
But, the biggest USP of YouTube was that it was so easy to handle that even someone with the least knowledge about the web could upload videos without anybodys help.
With the stupendous success of YouTube, which prompted search giants Google to buy out the firm a couple of years since its introduction, other online video portals also emerged, with most of them focusing on select categories rather than a general video portal like YouTube. As of today, there are many online video portals in the internet that deal with different categories, ranging from music and movies to sports, funny clips, and fashion, to name a few. Some such popular sites include Imteaz, Sharkle, and Metacafe.
As the online video scenario continues to evolve, today, apart from uploading online videos, such online video portals also offer netizens options to post comments each video they upload, make video games uploads, categorize personal choices, download select online videos, and even live video streaming from various media and other sources. Some portals even offer video mailing features wherein random videos from select categories are emailed to the user email account on subscription, much like newsletters.
While it is true that most online videos portals employ human editors to screen the video uploads they receive, given the sheer number of netizens accessing the system, it is not so practical to closely monitor and clear each of the video files uploaded. Hence, the onus is on the parents to monitor and exercise check on the online video sites their children could access in the internet. For netizens, on the other hand, doing unwarranted things such as uploading hate content or uploading ripped parts of pirated videos could lead to legal issues, and hence must be refrained from. After all, online video portals such as YouTube and Imteaz, while offering their services, expect visitors to use it in a responsible way, and not with a destructive bend of mind.
