In today's day and age, it is very difficult, if not downright impossible, to lead a healthy lifestyle. Whether it is the food laden with articificial additives we consume, or the daily mental stress we go through, or the environment pollution that we are exposed to, we continuously injecting chemicals and causing harm to our bodies. While our bodies are capable of fending for themselves through eliminator organs like the lungs, kidneys and liver, it is critical that we take the initiative to help our body functions by cleansing its toxins. The fact is, we would all be doing our health a great service from body detox.

Body detox is a process of driving out toxins from our bodies. Whether we know it or not, over a period of time, many toxic materials are introduced to our systems. When our system is compromised due to the toxic load, impurities will not be filtered properly and they end up retained in our bodies. This toxins, if not eliminated at regular intervals, could lead to many ailments and symptoms.

People who body cleanse and remove toxic contaminants from their bodies also tend to have a more refined skin complexion. This is because body detox gets rids of toxins that prevent nutrients from getting to your body cells. Your cells are therefore refreshed and premature aging is decelerated. Your cheeks will become rosy and you will look more youthful. You will feel your energy level increases and full of stamina.

Detoxing can do wonders for the way you look. The buildup of toxic contaminants in our bodies not only challenges our elimination organs and lowers our energy level, but irritates the skin as well. Some people with skin allergies have tried countless types of treatments but without any satisfactory results. Those of them who later initiated a body detox program saw a vast improvement to their skin problems.

The collection of toxic contaminants also attacks our immune system. Consequently, you will become more prone to illnesses. Body detoxification is a reliable prevention of ailments, from common illnesses such as cold or fatigue to the more chronic ones like kidney problem and heart disease.

Another common reason why people detox their bodies is to lose excess weight and keep it off. Body detoxification allows our bodies to process nutrients more efficiently and hence raise your metabolism rate. Coupled with improved quality of food in your diet, cellulite and fat will lose easily.

Body detoxification is also used to relieve fatigue, constipation, fluid retention, poor digestion, recurring headaches, depression, eczema, bad breath, unstable emotion, flatulence, alcohol addiction, frequent flu, sensitive skin, eye bags and menstrual difficulties.

So let's talk about your feet for a minute. Your feet? Yes. Many people involved in a whole body detox like to do a detox foot bath. This is not the same as the plastic massaging foot bath you got for Christmas that you never use. A detox foot bath uses a metal container that puts an electric charge in the water. This charge doesn't hurt you, but binds to the toxins in your body and carries them out through the pores in the feet. Many people say this foot bath works well. But in any natural body detox, removing toxins is pointless if you are just going to put them back in your body. So yes, you may remove toxins through the hundreds of pores in your feet but if you put them back in you are kind of defeating the purpose.

Now what about the whole juice diet craze. It's similar to a fast, except that you are allowing your body the nutrients from the juice. This is a great way to cleanse the system. However, you don't want to do it for longer than a couple of days. You would be depriving yourself of other needed vitamins and minerals if this is all your natural body detox consists of.

Speaking of fasting, what about purging? This is where you bulk up on fiber, laxatives, or supplements to keep you in the bathroom for the better part of your natural body detox. This is one body detox tip you want to avoid. Yes, it is important to stay regular. But besides putting yourself at risk for bulimia and possibly harming your colon, purging doesn't do much at all. When you purge, your body isn't going to get rid of only the toxins and keep all the healthy stuff. It's going to get rid of everything and leave you feeling sick and weak. While these can be normal side effects of a healthy body detox program, don't fool yourself into thinking that purging is the way to go.

Make sure when looking at a fad that you check credible research to find out if this is something that is here to stay. Don't jeopardize your whole body detox by engaging in risky behavior that will leave you worse off than when you started. The goal is to improve your health, not sabotage it.
