[S174]Scrubs My Bright Idea
by David Jonhson, Dav
History of Light
The incandescent light bulb is a source of artificial light that works by incandescence. An electric current passes through a thin filament, heating it until it produces light. The enclosing glass bulb prevents the oxygen in air from reaching the hot filament, which otherwise would be destroyed rapidly by oxidation.

The light bulb, in particular, profoundly changed human existence by illuminating the night and making it hospitable to a wide range of human activity. The electric light, one of the everyday conveniences that most affects our lives, was invented in 1879 by Thomas Alva Edison.

The traditional light bulb as we know it has not changed for over a hundred years since Edison and Swan - the time of Queen Victoria - and these bulbs waste 95% of electricity as heat.

Energy Saving Light bulbs
Energy saving light bulbs are a bright idea both for your pocket and the environment. They use up to 80 per cent less electricity than a standard bulb, but produce the same amount of light. Energy saving light bulbs use a fifth to a quarter of the electricity of ordinary bulbs to generate the same amount of light. So where you'd normally use a 60W bulb, you'll only need a 13-18W energy saving recommended equivalent.

Depending on how long your lights are in use every day, just one energy saving light bulb could save you on average around £3 a year, and up to £6 for brighter bulbs or those used for more hours a day. And because it will last up to 10 times longer than a standard bulb, it could save you around £40 before it needs replacing.

Fit all the lights in your house with energy saving light bulbs and you could save around £45 a year and £600 over the lifetime of all of the energy saving light bulbs.

Why switch to Energy Saving Light bulbs?
Climate change is the biggest threat facing our planet today. It is happening and it is happening right now. We all need to work together to tackle climate change by reducing our greenhouse gas emissions which is why the government is pushing a programme to phase out GLS light bulbs and replace with energy saving light bulbs by 2011.

By phasing out the traditional light bulbs and switching to Energy Saving Bulbs we will all be using less energy so will need less electricity. This initiative aims to save up to 5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide a year by 2012 from UK electricity generation.

Conclusion
Energy saving light bulbs are good for your pocket and the environment. If you needed any more convincing here are some reasons that you should be switching to energy saving light bulbs today: There are 600m light sockets in the UK, 10-15% of a household’s electricity bill is due to light bulbs, 1.8bn is spent on lighting homes each year, you could make on average a £7 saving for each incandescent bulb replaced with an energy saving light bulb and finally, 80% less electricity is used by energy saving light bulbs compared with traditional light bulbs. Flick the switch and make the change to energy saving light bulbs today.

On hot and sunny days the sun can be blinding and parosols are the perfect way to cool down and shade yourself from the rays. Many days, the streets abound with people using printed parasols in a wide variety of bold styles and vibrant colors. This is the perfect platform to use for your company or corporation to shine.

Anyone can see them and as such, personalized parasols are literally walking advertisements. But they aren't crude or overbearing like flashy t-shirts or giant billboards. Printed parasols are chic and fashionable. Each one has its own personalized flare and special designs, graphics and slogans cane make them extra unique.

A fantastic way to increase brand awareness is to use promotional parasols to advertise your products or services. There are many advantages. The first and most obvious is that the parasols are mobile advertisements. People all over cities and towns can walk the streets with branded parasols, promoting your company to everyone who sees them.

The second main advantage is the association of a bright sunny day with your company's logo or slogan. As opposed to umbrellas which are used on dark, dismal and rainy days, parasols are used for the exact opposite reasons. No company wants to be associated with rain or grey skies. Personalized parasols will conjure a relationship between the bright and cheerful atmosphere of a summer day with the name of your company. Most often, parasols have decorative designs which are not associated with any company in particular. By breaking into this niche market, your company can be the first to be recognized as a bright and refreshing organization.

And there is a yet another advantage. Though the a sunny day can certainly be enjoyable and cheerful, the rays might be a bit too overwhelming for some. As printed parasols often have two customized sides, whoever is using your customized parasols will be shaded from strong sun light. What does this mean? It means that they will associate protection and comfort with your company's product or services. As they stroll down the street with a branded parasol in hand, they are continually faced with the company logo and the notion of protection, shade and comfort will forever be emblazoned on the minds of consumers.

Yet another benefit to using promotional parasols is the fact that they are often used by people attending events or places with a large amount of people. At outdoor concerts it is very common to see people sporting printed parasols to shade themselves from the sun. The enormous amount of publicity gained from just a few individuals using branded parasols is immediately evident. The beach is just one more prime location where people use parasols. Once again, they are associated with positive emotions, and that is what marketing is all about. Onlookers will experience the beach, the waves, and the relaxed and playful crowds and most importantly, the printed parasols.

With so many diverse advantages to using branded parasols, choosing this promotional technique is a cinch.
