Those who say that self hypnosis is a trick, obviously, do not understand the concept of self hypnosis. Self hypnosis is useful when used with other weight lose techniques like workout and dieting.
Self hypnosis changes our thinking by getting advice under heightened state of mental calmness. If the advice is given properly, it has the power to change our thinking. Many studies have also concluded that self hypnosis should be used with other methods of weight loss. People often complain that when they normally lose weight by dieting and exercise, initially they lose weight fast, but after some time their mind is unable to take the pressure and they have to try really hard to maintain the momentum. To solve this problem self hypnosis is used to ease the pressure and keep you interested in dieting and exercise.
Barring some extreme cases that may be genetic most cases of obesity are psychological in nature, so we have to deal with them psychologically. If the battle going on in mind is won then half the work is already been done. Major cause of obesity is uncontrolled eating. Over eating can not always be linked to hunger. Reasons for overeating may be psychological in nature. Self hypnosis can help you in dealing with over eating by finding out and eradicating the root cause of over eating.
Weight loss can be achieved by working on a three stage program. These three stages are self hypnosis, dieting and exercise. Start with mind by using self hypnosis because it acts as a catalyst for dieting and exercise. Diet control is second because no matter how much exercise you do, without dieting losing weight fast will be near impossible. Exercise will also help you in maintaining other things like blood pressure and will also give you self confidence.
You should understand that this is not about losing weight once. You have to stay in shape and good health all your life. Considering this fact the importance of self hypnosis increases as it prepares you psychologically for losing weight and maintaining good health. Going through self hypnosis will not only help you in losing weight fast but also in other things like improving self esteem, if you want to quit smoking it will help you in doing so.
Do an Internet search and you will find thousands of web pages devoted to the subject. Unfortunately, many websites that sell hypnosis tapes make crazy, unsubstantiated claims. I've been in the industry since 1978. So I think that I'm more than qualified to set the record straight on weight loss hypnosis.
First of all, hypnotism is a tool, just like a scalpel is a tool. Just as all surgeons have varying skill levels in the use of a scalpel, different hypnotherapists have varying skill levels in the use of hypnotism. And to complicate the matter, there are many different methods of hypnotism.
Listen to a couple of the silly assertions about weight loss hypnosis that I've read on websites, along with the facts of reality:
"Post-hypnotic suggestion will speed up your metabolism." The truth is that hypnotism will never directly speed up your metabolism. But it can be very compelling at helping to program your subconsious mind with increased motivation to exercise. And that exercise can dramatically increase your metabolism. Similarly, hypnotism to speed up the metabolism for quick weight loss can be effected by re-programming the subconsious mind to motivate the intake of increased amounts of protein, because that intake will step up the metabolism.
"Post-hypnotic suggestion will make you lose some weight." This is false. But hypnotism can be used to help dispose of your appetite, so that you eat less. And eating less can help you to lose some weight. Your appetite and cravings for food and compulsion to eat are triggered by two unconscious programs:
A. When you pair eating with any other behavior, the other behavior will trigger cravings for food and an overwhelming compulsion to eat. This is called a conditioned response. For example, if you eat as you talk on the phone, you will automatically get an urge to eat each time you talk on the phone.
B. When you feel stressed, you feel an urge to put something into your mouth for relaxation and pleasure. This is because of programming that you received as a baby. When you got difficult, your nanny put a bottle in your mouth. You got distracted, relaxed, and probably fell asleep. Now when you get cranky (anxious or tense), you feel compelled to put something into your mouth for relaxation and pleasure.
C. There is a third unconscious program that is present for some people. It's called emotional eating. Emotional eating takes place when someone is motivated to make him or herself fat, because by being fat they will protect themselves in some way. For example, if someone gets their heart broken in a relationship, their subconsious mind might motivate them into a behavior that can prevent them from getting their heart broken again. Example: They are motivated to get fat to keep them out of another relationship, because that will eliminate the possibility of another broken heart.
