Fans of the VH1 reality television series Rock of Love follow the pursuits and antics of numerous women as they compete and try to win the heart of rock star Bret Michaels. The glam metal performer and front man of Poison typically gives the women various tasks to accomplish and tests to face, to see how fun and interesting they can be as potential companions. One of the more serious and notably significant aspects of wooing Bret Michaels that the women were made aware of is his condition of diabetes, a commonly recurring disease that can be managed with medication, yet still needs to have constant vigilance.
In a previous news story, the 44-year-old musician already discussed his long contention with the illness, while Michaels more recently recounted how the women who appeared on the series dealt with his affliction. He also openly gave his recommendations and advice to younger sufferers and how they could deal with diabetes, as well. As he appeared on Rock of Love, the show was contractually obligated to acknowledge Michaels' diabetes. The chronic condition was explained in detail to all of the female hopefuls, with Michaels willingly demonstrating a blood sugar test before them for their knowledge, along with allowing them to see him injecting his own insulin.
According to the rock star, the girls were all genuinely concerned for his welfare in this respect and willing to learn more about diabetes. As the series went on with production and shooting, a number of them spent their free time reading up on the sickness, wanting to learn all that they could about it. Michaels also explained that the more proactive ones who were interested in finding out what they could about diabetes lasted much longer on the show than those who did not make similar effort.

Michaels jokingly commented that while he did get tired and put himself to sleep with the help of booze, he never got tired of his fans or his “lovely" show. Aside from his music career and the reality series, he also helps run his own film production company. He has said that he wakes up everyday wanting to create and prove concepts with his music.
