On the face of the door smaller holes are cut for the lever handles, mounting posts and mortise cylinder. Most mortise locks are grade 1 and are the ideal application for high traffic areas. Mortise locks are used on most commercial office buildings. Mortise locks provide more choices for different types of trim.
Door knob locks
Commercial door knob locks fits into a 2 1/8 inch diameter hole and require a 1 inch hole from the edge of the door. These locks are still available but not used as often because ADA now requires a lever instead. Door knob locks are available in grade 1,2, and 3. These locks come in the standard functions. The most common functions are entry, storeroom, classroom, passage, and privacy.
Commercial deadbolt locks
Commercial deadbolt locks are heavier than most residential great locks. These locks are also graded to provide the consumer the ability to compare locked equally. Some deadbolts have the UL listings which may be required on some applications.
