[R381]Roll Out Garage Flooring
by Peter Wilson, Pet
Last spring I started to clean out my garage so that I could get ready for the summer. I was a bit annoyed to find that leaves had managed to blow in through a broken window which had added to the mess. Without the leaves there were still piles of stuff all over the floor of my garage. When I was moving the junk and clearing my garage out I noticed the floor was cracked, normally I would have just left it, but this time I decided I would replace it.

I started by breaking up the old concrete which was extremely difficult. It may have been possible to lay the new floor over the top, however I decided to take my time and make sure it was all done properly. Anyway who wouldn't enjoy waving a sledge hammer around? If you do plan on doing this yourself it is very important to wear a mask so that you don't inhale any of the concrete dust caused by breaking it up. When you've broken everything up you should throw the big bits away, the finer gravel can possibly be used as a rough course as long as you spread them out evenly.

And Then What Happened?

Grass can grow through the new flooring as it is down onto bare earth, to prevent this happening you can spread quite a large amount of straw over your floor. Then I made a frame out of four pieces of wood which filled the room, this made a slab which would then be filled with concrete. This prevents the concrete from going any further than wanted.

After the wooden frame has been fitted you should then start to mix the concrete. I did this in a wheel barrow, although you could hire a machine to do this for you. You should mix it to one bag of concrete mix to three gallons of water. Stir the mixture well using a hoe and shovel and make sure everything is nice and wet.

When the concrete is at the preferred consistency you should then start to pour the concrete into the frame. A hoe should be used to level out the concrete so that you can make sure it is all laid evenly. You will need to repeat this until the frame is filled with concrete. When the floor has almost dried just use a broom to brush the floor and give it the texture that you want. Then make sure you keep everyone off your floor until it has dried completely.

This article and hand-holds the reader through the process of constructing the flooring for a garage. It is a plain and simple process, and anyone who is ready to put in some efforts should find it easy.
This is the story that happened during the spring of last year. Adam went out of the house is started cleaning his garage to prepare for the oncoming summer time. He knew he had tasks set out in front of him as he started cleaning out the leaves that had come in through the door of the garage. While he was cleaning, he decided on one thing. This work was strenuous and he did not want to do this every time. He looked around and then suddenly got an idea. He decided that he wanted to change the flooring of the garage.
Once decided Adam, set up the task and designed the floor plan. He also had a plan in mind as to how much time it would require a complete the flooring. He started up by cracking the old flooring. We took him quite some time to get through the process, but he was happy doing it with the help of the sledge hammer. Adam was wearing a mask, so that the dust particles don't enter into his respiratory system. This was the precaution he was taking, while he was working on this project. After the job was done, Adam decided to transport the small concrete pieces that had resulted from the breaking process, to the driveway.
After that, he spread the straw on the ground and covered it all over the soil. This would help in preventing the grass from growing in that particular area. The next task would be to create the wet concrete and spread it around the place. However, before this was done Adam decided to fence the place where the concrete was to be laid so that the wet concrete would not spill over.
The next task for Adam was too makes the concrete, carefully in a wheel barrow. Adam already had experienced in the construction industry. This experienced proved handy for Adam in getting the job done. It was easy for Adam to mix around 3 gallons of water, and then add a 50 pound bag of concrete to this water. After this he thoroughly stirred the mixture. Once he had an even concrete mix, he decided to pour this concrete mix into the fencing that he had already done. This ensured that the concrete does not spill over the fence, and there would be no messy situation. After this, he left the area to drive on its own. When it was semi-dried, he took a broom and brushed the surface, to give it a designer look. After this, he ensured that the place was a dry enough to be used as a real garage. The place was looking great and Adam would have one less job to do in the next summer. He simply does not have to worry about things like or any other floor as he now has cement flooring. This is highly maintenance free.
