With the cost of fuel for our vehicles continuing to go up in price per gallon every time we turn around, the one question that is on every mind that drives a car is how to make it save gas. The best answer to that is to leave it parked, but since that is not an option for most of us, it really can not even be considered.

Provided we do not have to drive twenty miles out of our way to save that few cents per gallon that is. In some vehicles it can be just as well to use the lower octane gas instead of buying premium, but this is not the case for vehicles with high performance engines or those that specifically require a premium fuel. Recently it has been advisable to keep your trunk as empty as possible. The more weight we have in our car, the more fuel it will use to carry the load. Having regular tune ups done to your car is always a smart idea anyway. If you rotate them yourself, you will still need to make sure they are balanced correctly in order for it to help on your fuel bill.

One of the best ideas to save fuel is to simply slow down when you can and try to maintain a steady speed. In an average sedan, every 10 miles per hour you travel faster than 60 is like adding 54 cents to a gallon of gas. This can add up to a lot just to get somewhere a few minutes sooner. Not to mention the added danger that also accompanies faster driving.

When you use all these tips and limit as many car trips anywhere that you can, you will know that you are doing all you can to limit the amount of gasoline you use other than just walking everywhere you go, which we have already decided is probably not an option.
