If you like cutting edge technology, then you will like the Samsung SCH-U740 Alias. This phone was designed for Verizon and its CDMA network. While the Alias looks like a clamshell flip phone, it is actually designed in a more sophisticated manner. It is unique as far as cell phones go due to its dual hinge display (or dual-flip) – you can open it either standard flip for normal use or sideways for texting.

The Samsung SCH-U740 Alias is one of the most modern cell phones on the market today. The data transfer is swift and there are plenty of media functions. There is a strong focus on text messaging and e-mailing. If you are into multimedia, then the Samsung SCH-U740 Alias is the phone for you. There are also plenty of options when it comes to colors.

To open the phone, you can flip it open the same as every other clamshell phone. But, surprisingly, you can also open it sideways in much the same way that a laptop is opened. The screen will automatically change to portrait or landscape mode, depending on how the phone is opened. This special rotation ability makes the Samsung SCH-U740 Alias comparable to a T-Mobile Sidekick phone. The U740 Alias has much of the functionality of a smart phone because of its full QWERTY keyboard layout. The phone makes it simple to send e-mails as well as text messages.

The U740 Alias has a thin look to it. There is a music player and a memory card slot. The phone allows for advanced voice dialing and there are two dual color displays. The display is LCD (color TFT/TFD). The resolution is 176 x 220 pixels while the colors are 18-bit.

The U740 Alias is definitely one of the higher end Samsung phones. There are plenty of features to this phone that make it a desirable phone to own. If you are a music fan then you can access the VCAST music and video services. From here, you can purchase and download all of the songs and videos that your heart desires, as long as Verizon has them to offer. The only downside is that the straight-to-your-phone downloads cost an extra fee for use.

If you are all about Bluetooth technology then the U740 Alias will not disappoint you. Bluetooth is built right into the Samsung SCH-U740 Alias which means that transferring files can be done quickly and easily the wireless way. Bluetooth enables a user to send a file from the phone to a computer or from the phone to someone else’s phone effortlessly.

Another method of sending data is by way of the 3G capable CDMA EVDO data network. It is important to note that this network is one of the fastest in the entire world of cell phones.

Data transfer is considered to be one of the highlights of the U740 Alias, as is the ease with which text messaging can be done. The 1.3 megapixel camera allows for images that are no better and no worse than those that come from similar camera phones. Unfortunately, there is no dedicated camera key housed on the exterior part of the phone, which makes taking pictures somewhat tricky.

Glare can be a problem with the U740 Alias. The screen of the U740 is rather lacking and not one of the better ones made by Samsung. This is unfortunate due to the fact that the phone is considered to be a media phone.

The battery life of the U740 Alias could be a great deal better. The talk time for the U740 Alias is 3.5 hours maximum (which works out to be 210 minutes). The standby time is 200 hours maximum (which is approximately 8 days).
