The largest red diamond ever graded by the GIA Lab is a 5.11-carat stone which eventually sold for around $8 million. This stone was called the Moussaieff Red as it was purchased for this amount by Moussaieff Jewelers.

Smaller versions of these stones such as ones which are a carat or less could sell these days for $2 million or more. Considering the rareness factor associated with red diamonds, it is no wonder that these jewels cost a pretty penny to purchase if one is able to do so at all.

Where are the Red Diamonds Which Are Not For Sale?

Out of the approximately twenty or so red diamonds which exist today, only a small portion of stones are currently up for sale. As for the ones which are not available to be purchased, some are in the hands of private owners or jewelers whereas others are on display at museums, such as the Smithsonian Museum. Others have disappeared for one reason or another. Whether this elusive diamond will pop up in the future remains to be seen by the red diamond following public.
