Miss Acra was born in Lebanon, studying in Paris at Esmod Ecole de Mode of Design, and in New York, at the Fashion Institute of Technology. She won more awards at both schools than anyone else in history, which helped to launch her fashion career.

She was officially discovered after she designed a dress for one of her friends who was a society maven, and that attention helped her start her own company in 1995 along with opening a bridal salon, showing her first wedding dress designs in public in 1997.

Ms. Acra's style is unique in that she uses a lot of embroidery, which means a lot of intricate needlework that most designers stay away from. She also uses a lot of silk fabric, which makes her wedding gowns lush. People like to compare her to Vera Wang because they see complete opposites in style. Where Wang likes modern with splashes of traditional added, Acra goes with more traditional styles, adding modern touches on the back end.

Because of the needlework and materials she uses on her dresses, which includes Swarovski crystals, the price of her lowest cost dresses usually start around $4,000, but evne on resale they'll usually start around $3,000. However, in an interesting twist, Acra designed a special line of clothing for Barbie (yes, the doll) that cost around $180, and of course it's the most expensive line of apparel in history for the doll.

Reem Acra's wedding gowns have been worn by many top celebrities, including Star Jones, Katey Segal, Marcia Cross, and Jennie Garth. And, at a live bridal show in April 2009, she exhibited a fairy tale inspired bridal line, using the names of characters from fairy tale fame as the names of her creations.
