[R133]Reducing Carbon Dioxide Emissions
by Matt, Mat

Carbon emissions are one of the leading causes of damage tothe Earth's atmosphere.  has become a graveproblem in today's society and these emissions into the Earth's atmosphere needto be put into consideration.  Globalwarming can be devastating to the Earth because it leads to a rise intemperatures which further leads to the melting of ice and the elevation ofwater levels and the death and at times the extinction of animals and plantlife.  Such activities have been theoriesto the explanation of the great tsunami that hit Indonesia and devastated the area.

Carbon emission is possible to at least detain.  The effects cannot not be reversed and it isnear impossible to stop all emission but just a slight reduction can save thehuman population years from the devastating hurricane effects.  Below, there is a list of suggestions to helpreduce carbon emissions.

The first suggestionis to .  "Going green" means to use sourcesof energies such as wind and water instead of basic energies which includeenergy derived from coal, oil and gas. Try to find an electric company that provides "green energy"rather than nuclear energy because they do exist.  This will greatly help decrease the carbonemissions that are dispersed in the atmosphere of the Earth.

The next suggestion is to reduce the amount that youdrive.  Going along with saving on fuel, try to make as few trips as possible. Try to do all of your driving for chores once a week.  If you live by the stores try walking there.  Another resource that helps are buying orleasing hybrid cars.  You will save moneyon a hybrid car even if the initial cost is more expensive, due to the amountof fuel that you will free from buying. Plus, you will be able to decrease carbon emissions.

The third suggestion is to limit meat consumption that isimported.  Due to the importation ofmeat, these products need to be transported which means there are a lot ofemissions of carbon into the atmosphere of the Earth.  This is the same for fruits andvegetables.  If they are not locallyproduced, they are transported from long distances which are harmful to theEarth and leads to Global Warming.  Agreat idea is to produce your favorite vegetables and fruits in your garden sothat you do not need to travel and cause more damage to the atmosphere with thecarbon emissions from burning fuel.  Youwill also be able to save a few dollars by cultivating your own products.

The final suggestion to diminish the addition of to the Earth is byrecycling.  You can also buy productswhich are only made from recycled products. Therefore, say good bye to Styrofoam!

Theseare just a few suggestions.  You canfollow one or two or all of them.  Themore you do, the more you will reduce carbon emissions from entering theEarth's atmosphere.

The first step you need to take in your quest to reduce your carbon waste is to check what you do in your home - so go around and check what you are using. Then have a family talk and get "stuff" turned off. Entertainment and game machines are real power gobblers and often left on 24/7 when they are actually used for 2-3 hours!

Here is a list of areas you can save - When you buy new appliances go for the ones with good energy ratings - Check your refrigerator seals. - How many fridges does one family need? Can you turn the beer fridge in the shed off except for parties and keep some beer in the kitchen fridge? - Why use hot water for washing. - Air dry the clothes unless it is very wet. Even small apartments have somewhere to put a drying rack. - Temperature is an interesting one. For some reason people prefer the temperature in their homes to be warmer in winder that they can "possibly tolerate" in summer! - We seem to have forgotten how to wear winder clothes in winter. - Light is a very important part of our life and some people get depressed in low light environments so our energy saving need to be more creative than turning off lights! Gloomy is used for both the environment and the mood for a very good reason. But this is the easy one with a range of new lighting options. - It is more energy efficient to use a small electric appliance like a "frypan" to cook a roast than to use the oven - check which heats the kitchen most. - Share the car. - Road rage uses much more fuel than calmer driving habits.

Some quick tips to help you and your family go save carbon emissions and money are: - Be informed. Read on the latest reports about energy saving and be proactive. - Educate young children on the effects of wasting energy and goods and be an example that they can follow. - Think green. Make planting a part of your family's activities. Join organizations that have programs to plant trees. This is also a good way of involving and educating children. - Be careful of how much green matter you send to landfill - it breaks down to release more methane to the atmosphere. Think Green, reduce waste, and go for a "grumpy" walk every day before leaving home and going to bed. Turn off everything that is not essential.

You will find that you can easily save big money that you are currently sending out into the atmosphere as pollution. Go about it systematically and keep a record of what you are saving.
