When you exercise, the brain produces a range of biochemicals that work to reduce stress. It is shown that competitors and athletes have an endorphin rush during their training sessions. The body naturally produces and releases an opiate-like chemical to help reduce the pain that comes with a hard workout. When it is produced in high quantities, it can make one feel extremely happy.
Endorphins are not the only thing produced during a good workout. Dopamine,norepinephrine and serotonin, commonly known as neuro-transmitters are made by the body and they can help to improve one's mood. Having low levels of those neuro-transmitters can result in anxiety, depression and occasionally increased aggression. Exercise helps to keep the levels at a point that helps to combat those occurrences.
Not only does exercise produce helpful biochemicals, it helps to reduce biochemicals that are produced by stress. When one is under stress, chemicals such as cortisol and other hormones are released by the body. If left in the bloodstream, they are harmful to the body, and can cause a narrowing of the arteries, which can lead to heart conditions.
Exercise produces a two fold benefit. The harmful hormones are broken down during exercise, and can then be passed out of the body with no ill effects. Exercise also helps by increasing blood vessels' resilience, so that they are less affected by any remaining harmful compounds that may not have broken down during the workout.
Quite a number of people are affected by tension in their muscles in the neck, shoulders or in the back of their legs. Tension can often be worked out with exercise, especially if you focus on those areas during warm up and cool down stretches. Exercise also strengthens those muscles, and fresh oxygen is carried to them, making tension less likely after the workout. 'Bad' cholesterol is also reduced during a workout, so there are many benefits to exercise.
Exercise also has psychological benefits that are helpful in combating stress. When you focus on an exercise routine, your attention is taken away from the problem that is causing you stress. This allows you to take some time away from the problem and do something good for yourself.
The effect this produces is called homeostasis. This means that your body is brought back to a state of equilibrium, or its natural state, one without worries or stress. This stops your body from shutting down as it allows your system to function without overloading it.
A regular workout also produces other psychological benefits. As your health levels and strength improves, your self esteem will climb as well. Being attractive is a big factor in making people feel good about themselves. You also benefit from knowing that you are actively working to improve your health, and your life. This sense of working actively on something can then be implemented with the problem that is causing stress.
Exercise can be as simple as going for a vigorous walk. This takes you away from the situation that is causing you stress, and allows your body to breakdown any harmful stress related chemicals and produce mood lifting endorphins. you should exercise at least 3 to 5 times a week for exercise, for at least half and hour each time, to have any observable benefits. This will not only help to keep stress at a low level, your health will improve, and you'll feel better generally.
Stress can have long-term consequences and it's not something you really can ignore.

There's simply no way that you can get rid of all the stress that occurs in every day life.
You're going to have stress. It simply as a matter of what techniques you choose to use to deal with it. There are several practical short-term and effective long-term strategies for minimizing stress and its impact on your body, soul and mind.
Most often you're under stress for a long period of time and simply choose to ignore it. You falsely believe that work life and home life as you know it will cease to exist unless you work the frantic pace you are currently enduring.
Many people simply accepted stress as a normal part of life. Unfortunately stressed that is left ignored can have a negative impact on your life.
The first thing that you can do to help eliminate untoward stress is to be more aware of your stress levels.
Make a conscious effort to be aware of your internal state of mind and be objective about your external circumstances. Some circumstances are going to be stressful, that is indeed a part of life.
However, it is how you choose to react to those stressful situations which can cause the most trouble. Reacting with a degree of concern and stress is normal and healthy while reacting with the fear and obsession which shut down your life are not healthy.
When you're in a stressful situation literally stop and take a moment to breathe. One of the most common stress reactions is to tense your muscles.
The neck muscles typically stiffen and your breathing becomes more shallow. If you begin to feel stressful, then focus on your breathing and the tension in your body.
If you find it is present then take a deep breath and consciously loosen your neck muscles by gently rotating your head from side to side, take several slow deep breaths and think about what you are doing.
This is not an intense activity. Don't overdo it. Breathe slowly. Do not hyperventilate. The goal is to gently and very slowly rotate your head and shoulders and relax your chest muscles. Often it simply takes a few seconds and a couple of deep breaths in order to break the stress cycle in which you have begun to engage in.
While this sort of activity works well for episodes of acute stress, more often it is chronic stress that invades your life and can ruin your health.
If you are experiencing a period of chronic stress then sometimes a simple walk will help. A change of scenery can really help to alter your frame of mind.
Fresh air and sunshine can be relaxing.
You may also find that a moderate amount of physical activity can help to reduce many of the physical symptoms of stress.
You might consider playing certain types of music that you find soothing to the soul. Seeing a funny movie or a comedy on TV is also a great stress reducer.
Laughter is a wonderful thing to help with the reduction of stress. You may also find that some sort of hands-on creative activities such as painting or a sculpting may be helpful to reduce chronic stress.
While all of these suggestions are known to help reduce the amount of stress you experience what they don't do is address the underlying cause of your stress.
If you find yourself enduring stress that is interfering with your life more often than you would like, then perhaps it is time to make a visit to your health care provider to address the underlying cause of your stressful situation.
In the meantime make sure that you incorporate some of the stress reduction techniques into your daily life so that you can feel more like yourself again.
Stress is a normal part of life, yes, but it is not something that should control your every waking thought.
