[R169]Relief From Yeast Infection
by Klara Smitts, Kla

Looking for relief from your yeast infections symptoms? Even if you are on a doctor's prescription, it may take a few days for the medicine to work. During this time you will still suffer with the itching and burning associated with a yeast infection. There are a few things you can do to help relieve these symptoms while you are waiting for your infection to clear.

First, you might choose an over-the-counter cream to help with the symptoms. Sometimes treatments of vaginal creams such as miconazole will include rubbing some of the cream on the genital areas to help relieve the external symptoms of itching and burning. If you are taking a prescription tablet for your infection, consider buying a small tube of this cream to help soothe the itching and burning.

Something else to try that might help ease your yeast infections symptoms is yogurt. Yogurt is good for those suffering from yeast infections because yogurt contains active bacteria known to kill the yeast fungus. Some people say eating yogurt or even applying it directly to the affected areas will help soothe a yeast infection. If you don't like the taste of yogurt, you can try the flavored ones that come with fruits puree at the bottom, or see your pharmacist. He can give you a product called Lactinex. These tablets contain the same active fungus-killing bacteria that yogurt does.

Sometimes you can even find relief from a yeast infection by stopping it before it starts. For instance, if you know taking a round of antibiotics will result in a yeast infection, have your doctor prescribe you a medication to take with your antibiotic that will help cut down your chances of getting a yeast infection. Your doctor will prescribe Diflucan, or fluconazole. This is a one-dose pill that will help inhibit the overgrowth of fungus while you are taking the antibiotic.

Taking a warm sitz bath with a few drops of tea tree oil can also help to relieve external symptoms of a vaginal yeast infection. This bath will simply rinse the area continuously with water and tea tree oil. You might also try a warm bath with a cup of apple cider vinegar mixed in. Both these baths will temporarily soothe the external itching and burning associated with a yeast infection.

You will also be more comfortable if you wear loose fitting clothing until your infection clears completely. Doing so will not only keep your clothing from rubbing already irritated areas, but will also keep the areas dryer which will help to inhibit the growth of fungus. You should also wear panties that have a cotton crotch since cotton is a more breathable cloth and will not hold in moisture like underwear made of polyester or silk.

There are several things you can do to help yourself be more comfortable while you are waiting for your yeast infection to clear up. These can include dressing in loose clothing as well as taking medicated baths or applying creams that will provide temporary relief.

A rather strange way to alleviate the itching sensation is to apply yogurt in the infected area. For this purpose, it is a good idea to use a tampon to apply the yogurt in the inner parts of the vagina. However, you must be careful to choose common yogurt with no sugar. Never keep it there for too long because it can worsen the condition.

If yogurt does not sound good to you, you can apply apple cider vinegar, internally or externally. This liquid can burn so you need to mix it with a little water. Apply the solution in the infected area and it will instantly alleviate the yeast infection itching.

Another cure for this kind fungal infection is oregano oil. However, you have to follow certain steps to use this herbal remedy. You can get immediate relief from itching after you apply it.

Another way to fight yeast is to put a garlic clove into your vagina, though the smell is not good. Leave it inside for a couple of hours, and it will soothe the itching quickly. If none of your own treatments work, you should definitely see your doctor.

Drugs Can Also Help

If you refuse to try natural cures, there are drugs that can be helpful, but you need to consult your doctor to get the right ones. Over-the-counter medications should not be used, especially if you are pregnant.

If you are going to use a medication for yeast infection itching, do not forget to consult a doctor. If you go to a doctor, he will be able to prescribe suitable antifungal drugs and vitamins.
