[R193]Remove Collection From Credit Report
by Mary Bush, Mar
NCO Financial is a collection agency. They collect for retail, financial services, healthcare and other industries.
They started doing business in 1926 and are both first and third party debt collectors. They have 140 operation centers spanning 9 different countries. There headquarters are in Horsham, Pennsylvania.
They say they are committed to teamwork, integrity and are customer oriented. NCO Financial participates in credit reporting. Another way of saying this is they can create a negative listing on your credit report and cause your score to be damaged. However you do have hope. You can have a listing from NCO Financial deleted. You have two options to have this listing deleted.
1. Directly dispute the listing with the credit bureaus.
This is done yourself by sending a dispute letter to the credit bureaus or you can hire a credit repair firm to handle the dispute process on your behalf.
If you do this yourself you must send a dispute letter to each credit bureau disputing the validity of the negative listing. Common reasons for a dispute are: the account has been paid, not your account, the listing is inaccurate and etcetera.
2. You can come to a settlement agreement with NCO Financial. However I would suggest disputing the listing first. If that does not work then consider making a settlement offer.
Do not settle for the full amount of the outstanding debt. You can negotiate the amount to settle. I recommend starting at 50% of the balance.
Also make sure that you have in writing that NCO Financial will remove the negative listing from your credit report in exchange for payment. Otherwise the listing will remain on your credit report and making payment will not help improve your credit score.
You should know that NCO Financial may not be the only person that creates a negative listing on your credit report for this account. The original creditor probably has created a negative listing for this account also.
It is common for collection agencies to sell accounts that they are unsuccessful collecting on. Thus NCO may have sold your account to another collection agency that has created a negative listing on your credit report too.
If your account is being reported by multiple agencies then I suggest hiring a professional credit repair company. This is a good idea because by paying one agency it will not remove all the negative listings.
If the debt is legitimate and you decide to settle do not pay the full balance. Collection agencies buy delinquent accounts for pennies on the dollar. If you pay the full amount you will be giving the collection agency a big profit.
You should know that NCO will only be able to remove the listing that they made for the account. They will not be able to remove any listings created by other companies even if settle the account with NCO. I would recommend having all communications with NCO in writing. This way if there is a breach of the settlement agreement you have written documentation.
In sum, dispute the listing first and if unsuccessful then make arrangements to settle your account. Get in writing that the listing will be removed from your credit report in exchange for payment.

They buy debt from banks, finance companies and other collection agencies. They outsource the collections to a variety of collection agencies most notable Resurgent Capital Services.

Resurgent performs the collections on behalf of LVNV Funding. However Resurgent outsources their collection work to other collection agencies.

LVNV typically only collects on delinquent unsecured debt such a charged off credit card. If they have been contacting you it is regarding an overdue debt.

LVNV Funding uses credit reporting as a method to recover payment. They can and will create a negative mark on your credit report if they are unable to collect payment. They also can sell your account to another collection agency if they can not recover payment.

You could have multiple negative listings on your credit report from one account. If you have a charged off credit card you will have one negative mark from the bank the credit card was issued by, another from LVNV Funding and yet another if they sold your account to another collection agency.

This is why it pays off to do the research and learn what is actually on your credit report. If you make payment to LVNV Funding or any collection agency they do not have to remove the negative listing that was created.

Also LVNV will not be able to remove any other negative mark on your credit report regarding the account. So I strongly suggest getting in writing from LVNV that they will remove a negative mark from your credit report in exchange for your payment. Do this only if it is a valid and accurate debt.

The best way to remove a mark from LVNV from your credit is to dispute the listing. This is done by sending a credit repair letter to the credit bureaus directly. In this letter you give the account details and explain why the account is invalid or inaccurate.

Then the credit bureaus must investigate the listing. Expect some resistance from the credit bureaus you may need to mail the same letter two or three times.

Another option is to hire a professional credit repair service. They will dispute your negative marks on your behalf. I suggest using a credit repair letter if you only have one of two negative marks. If you have many negative marks then you should consider hiring a credit repair service.
