When was the trumpet last cleaned? Was it cleaned before storage? Do the valves and slides function? Any dents? 4) Identify whether or not the seller is a professional music reseller? Parents of students who "used" to play trumpet will most likely not be aware of the full functioning condition of the instrument. Furthermore, parents often put horns into storage without cleaning before storage. If not properly maintained and cleaned, brass instruments (i.e. trumpets) can corrode due to acids from the mouth. Any serious student or professional reseller will have properly cleaned the horn to prevent corrosion. 5) Quality Brands are Conn, King, Bach, and Yamaha. Be wary of other brands, if the horn is intended to be a serious instrument.
