Being There For Your Family
by Bailey Micale, Bai
Quality time is more than just face time. When a family spends quality time together, they are talking and interacting about events, issues, and activities that affect their lives. Families that spend quality time together are often closer and have healthier relationships. Furthermore, parents that spend quality time with their children often are more in tune to their kids' lives and are more likely to see any problems that may occur.

The first step towards taking your life under control is to make a schedule of events for everyone, including parents, to see. Mark all the activities of the day such as sports practices, lessons, meetings, and special events that affect family life. This will help you cut down some activities if you find your children are over booked with too many activities. Essentially, a couple of major activities a season should be enough, otherwise they may not perform well in school and at home.

Make it a habit to eat dinner together as a family at least a couple of times a week. This traditional way of spending quality time together has fallen aside, as busy lives has taken over the family meal. While eating as a family, turn off the television or any other distractions and focus on each other. Be flexible with your dinner schedule in order to accommodate all family members.

Arrange a free day and night once in a week to be called as family day. And make sure that during that period there are no distractions, neighbors and not even friends. Make a point to visit the zoo, leisure park or even a museum. Still spending the time at home and playing games is the best-suited option. Never forget that family time is only for family and not just about events or picnics.

Television can be a constant distraction for families, especially in homes where there is a war being waged between family members. Try to choose programs that will entertain all members of the family. Seek to rent movies or find television shows appropriate for all ages, so no one is left out.

The majority of a family's time is spent in the car. Use this time to talk to your children about their day and any problems they may be facing. Many families waste this precious time instead of utilizing it to their fullest.

It is good to involve all the family members in the interaction. If your child is playing any sport then whole family should sit and watch that together. If your child is excellent in music then make sure of your presence at his concert. This will not only motivate and cheer him but also inspire him to perfom better.
