Pittsburgh: More Than Just A Lifestyle
by Gen Wright, Gen
With a total population of 312,819, Pittsburgh prevails as the second largest city in Pennsylvania. It ceaselessly maintains a substantial economic influence as it marks off as the 25th employer in the United States within the urban core. Astoundingly, it romps off sixth in terms of job density.

Shaped by the confluence of the Monongahela and the Allegheny Rivers, exhibits a characteristic shape of a triangular tract downtown. Skyline features rise high with buildings, bridges and railways as they all leave evidences of pre-revolutionary fortification. Commonly, Pittsburgh is coined as the "Steel City" or the "City of Bridges" due to its numerous bridges and its history line of steel manufacturing.

With an enormous task of being the country's steel industry hub, Pittsburgh today has surged with a variety of industries on education, healthcare, technology, fashion, financial services and even robotics. Great strides visibly redeveloped industrial sites in Pittsburgh with new structures for shopping and offices and housing, like the popular Southside Works.

Pittsburgh's economic growth has been set off by the extensive steel trading industry; and though the city's steel industry collapsed in the past, it has learned to adapt thereby. Its primary industries were able to shift to a variety of industries that made Pittsburgh a great place to live in. The region's most current annual payroll has even exceeded $10.8 billion as Pittsburgh maintains number of powerful Fortune 500 Companies' headquarters in a large mass.

Even though Pittsburgh faced a lot of economic troubles in 1970 due to the waning of the steel industry, modern Pittsburgh demonstrates an economically strong City in the United States. Its housing market has been stable despite the subprime mortgage crisis across the country. More so, despite the national recession in America, Pittsburgh added jobs in the year of 2008. Such positive economic news only reversed the case of the City 30 years ago when Pittsburgh was at a lost for its manufacturing base that moved numerous employment posts offshore.

With crime, Pittsburgh's average in violent crimes (murder, rape, robbery, and assault) is 1.78 times the national average. Meanwhile, property crimes (larceny, car theft, arson, and burglary) are 1.11 times the national average.

Pittsburgh has been named by Forbes magazine as the tenth cleanest city in 2007. In 2008, it has been chosen by Forbes magazine as the thirteenth best city wherein young professionals can live. The city's livability has also been ranked with high rates. In fact in 2007, Places Rated Almanac named the city as "America's Most Livable." In terms of health, a survey done by Sperling's BestPlaces places the city as the 22nd (among 50) healthiest American city. Meanwhile, transportation is available, although the average one-way commute in the city is quite long, taking 25 minutes.

More so, Pittsburgh's neighborhoods have remained a patchwork of ethnic character as it continuously reflects its immigrant history. African American, Jewish, Italian, German, Polish and other European Neighborhoods have continued to thrive in various areas of Pittsburgh. Even the ?less urban' living is exhibited in most regions at the edges of the city. Thus, such chic lifestyles feature yards, tree-lined streets and garages promote a suburban feel like in neighborhoods of the South Side, the North Side, Oakland, and the Golden Triangle.

Without a doubt, the city opens doors to suitable and profitable Pittsburgh mortgage plans. It is a great opportunity to start right with a Pittsburgh mortgage. Perhaps, even more than just a Pittsburgh mortgage!
