The Gadsby's Tavern Museum is a property consisting of two different buildings. There is a tavern which was built first and a hotel built a few years later. They were named after an Englishman named John Gadsby. The tavern was built around 1785 and the hotel was built around 1792. The tavern itself has a rich history having been home to dance assemblies, theatre and music performances. Overall it was a major center of political and social life in early Alexandria, Virginia. Some of the famous people who have been to it include George Washington, John Adams and James Madison. Quite a notable crew. It has such a rich history that it is a must see for any history buff. Tours are given regularly and last only about thirty minutes. This makes it a great place to find a quick yet interesting attraction.
