More About Acupuncture And Whiplash Injury
by Gen Wright, Gen
Whiplash injury is one of the most common injury in today's society, accounting for billions of dollars worth of economic loss for the United States. The injury itself is inflicted on the victim when there is a sudden jerk movement that forces the head to be thrown forward suddenly. This sudden movement pulls at the neck muscles, and it may affect the bone structure or the tissues. When there is injury to these elements, we call this whiplash injury.

Fortunately, most whiplash injury is not severe enough to kill. However, if left untreated, it can lead to chronic pains, which can be difficult to treat. Usually, the injury is temporary and in the hands of proper medical care, the injury should heal in a few weeks time. While the treatment is in progress, avoid taking any form of transport (e.g. cars or trains) as this may aggravate the condition. If possible, stay at home and rest and proceed outdoors only on doctor's advice.

A whiplash injury is also commonly known as a balance disorder in the Chinese medical community. This is because the bone structure has been affected by the sudden movements. The treatment, therefore, is to help the patient regain the right balance. Usually, the whiplash injury is treated using mostly drugs and physiotherapy in the western society. But if you ever find yourself in a position where you need to be treated for this injury, perhaps you can consider acupuncture.

A recent acupuncture study shows very interesting results. A group of 15 patients were chosen to take part in the study. Another control group, consisting of 17 patients with similar symptoms, were used as the control group. The treatments that were given to the first group consists of drugs, physiotherapy, and acupuncture. The second group only received drugs and physiotherapy as treatment. The acupuncture treatment involves targeting pressure points known as the Tianzhu BL-10 and Fengchi GB-20. These are pressure points located at the back of the head, near the neck. At the end of the study, results indicated that the first group that had undergone acupuncture healed much better when compared to the second group.

In the Chinese medical community, it is believed that acupuncture can be used to help heal many types of illnesses and injuries. Whiplash injury is just one example. There are literally hundreds of acupressure points recorded in by Chinese physicians.

If you are interested in learning more about this ancient art, just make a quick search online. You will discover that this method of healing has been in existence since the 1340s. Over the years, physicians have perfected this art and passed down the methods from generation to generation. By applying pressure to specific pressure points, the human nervous system can be stimulated to accelerate the healing. This is the essence of acupuncture.

Be sure to locate a qualified Chinese practitioner if you are interested in seeking treatment. Acupuncture may not be accepted by everybody, but the medical community in western society has gradually come to recognize its merits.
