[C484]Cheap Lady Student Car Insurance
by Jessica Farrell, Jes

Finding affordable car insurance for students can be something of a challenge. Insurance companies tend to classify students as “higher risk” along with teens and new drivers. And of course, most students need all the savings they can possibly get. Unfortunately, car insurance isn't cheap – a typical student pays anywhere from $3,500 to $13,000 in insurance premiums in a year.

Obtaining a lower rate for your car insurance starts when you still in school – you can often get a discount just by providing your most recent school report card. Most insurance companies consider students who have a grade ‘B' average, to be lower risk drivers. If your school or college offers a drivers education course, take the class and let your insurance company know.

If you have membership in any school or professional organizations, let your insurance company know. Some insurance companies offer significant discounts for membership of various alumni, fraternity and student associations; for example the Golden Key National Honor Society.

Let your insurance company know if you are also working while attending school. If you work close to your home and use your car primarily to go to and from your workplace, your insurance company will generally offer a discount. Students who live close to their school or college and generally don't drive much may be eligible for a “low-mileage” discount.

It is also less expensive to add a student's name to an existing auto insurance policy, rather than take out a new one; although if the student is the primary driver or owns the car, they may be required to have a separate policy.

Please see our list of recommended insurance quote providers below to get free insurance quotes from many providers. These sites also offer pages and pages of free insurance information. Free quotes are available everywhere but these sites offer quotes from multiple companies. This way you are sure to get a look and the 3 to 5 cheapest possibilities and you can save more money.

1. The type of car that you (the student driver) have has a bearing on the amount of your insurance premium. Four-door sedans are much cheaper to insure than two-door cars. The difference amounts to between $20 and $40 on a six-month insurance premium. It could cost more if the student is a high-risk driver. You'll pay about ten percent more on students' car insurance if you drive a four-wheel drive pickup rather than a standard model.

You can get bigger savings on students' car insurance by driving a minivan or better yet a four-door sedan. If you have an older car with little replacement value it can result in big insurance savings because the physical damage coverage for the car is optional. The exception to this is if you bought the car with a loan. If you buy this type of car, make sure that it's in top condition or any insurance savings may be offset by higher auto maintenance costs.

2. Take a driver's education course. Most of the auto insurance companies will give an added discount usually about five percent to students who have taken a driver's education class or course. Most of them let the student keep the discount until he/she reaches the age of 25. Fewer schools offer driver's education classes these days so you may have to pay for a private driver's education course. These can cost anywhere from $150 to $400.

You can take a cheaper online driver education course which will cost less than half than the offline classes. Check with your insurance company and state department of motor vehicles first to make sure they will accept the class or course before you sign up. Also make sure they will provide you with a certificate of completion.

3. Most of the auto insurance companies offer a good-student discount. They theorize that if you do well in school you'll be less likely to get into an automobile accident. You can save as much as twenty percent of your premium. You must have a 3.0 GPA or more and take a full load of courses.

4. If you're a college student and plan to take the car away with you to college you can save in other ways too. Car insurance premiums are priced according to what is called a risk profile of the geographic area where the car will be driven. Find out from your insurance agent if that area is better than the risk profile of your hometown area. Also you can ask your insurance agent to list your car as "garaged' if your college location is better. You could save three to six percent.

5. Make sure to pick the right deductible. If you have a low deductible you'll have high monthly premiums. If you want to avoid paying too much for auto insurance than get the highest deductible that fits your budget. You can save as much as twenty to twenty six percent on your insurance premiums.

By following these five best, students' car insurance tips you should be able to get the best, cheap car insurance quotes and save lots of money. In some cases student drivers should be able to save as much as two-thirds on their premiums.
