Firearms Training ? Its All About Caliber
by Emmysue Pryor, Emm
Dr. Ignatius Piazza started Front Sight Firearms Training Institute to do just that ? make sure citizens know how to use their guns. Firearms can be dangerous and even scary in the hands of an inexperienced individual, but with proper training such as that offered by Dr. Piazza, a person's safety and sense of security will grow beyond compare. Front Sight Firearms Training Institute is where uncertainty becomes confidence, where weakness grows into strength, where amateurs become experts.

Front Sight is located near Las Vegas, Nevada on acres of land. Dr. Piazza had a dream to "provide students with the world's finest firearms training, in a safe and responsible environment so they could experience the freedom and comfort that is achieved through skill at arms." So, in April of 1996, he created Front Sight and the institute has done nothing but carry out Dr. Piazza's dream ever since. The light bulb in his mind flashed brightly one evening in 1988. The bullets flew from a vehicle driving through his neighborhood. As quickly as the bullets hit their targets, Dr. Piazza was hit with a realization. He owned firearms. He shot them regularly at shooting ranges. He was pretty darn good. But life is not about having the time to carefully plan your next shot. When it comes to defending a life, the skills are needed now. Not tomorrow. Not ten minutes from now. Even thirty seconds from now could be too late. Dr. Piazza realized he was never taught those skills. That needed to change.

He also knew that average instructors produce average results. When it comes to gun training, average is not enough. The prospective instructors at Front Sight go through a huge amount of training before they can be considered professional firearms training instructors. The four day program is so intense that less than ten percent of the participants actually pass on their first try. Most candidates must retake the course over again ? and again ? until they have what it takes to satisfy the requirements. Not only must these people pass the course, they also have to have professional level teaching skills, an exceptional attitude for customer service, and the drive to study and practice to keep improving their firearms skills. After completing the Instructor Development Course, instructors constantly participate in ongoing instructor development to make sure their abilities never waver or slide downhill. This means that instructors never get "comfortable" in their position and let their teaching suffer. They are always ? and will always be ? on their game, exceeding military and law enforcement standards.

Proper firearms training can not be taken lightly. This is why Dr. Ignatius Piazza stands firmly behind his program. Front Sight Firearms Training Institute only employs instructors of the highest quality. Ron Phoebus, a pilot retired from the United States Navy, says, "This is the best training I've ever witnessed. It was intensive, rapid pace, sometimes heart pounding experience. Don't miss it." It's not just the caliber of the gun. It's the caliber of the instructor.
