Laws of the Courtroom:

? Food and drinks are NOT allowed inside courtrooms

? No chewing of gums inside the courtrooms. Kids are not encouraged inside as they could be sources of distraction.

? No reading of any kind of book or literature except for legal documents related to a case.

? There is a dress code. Although you don't have to wear a suit, you are advised to dress appropriately.

? Cell phones should be in silent modes at all times.

? Court staff are not qualified to make legal advice

? Everyone should stand when a judge enters or leaves a room.

? Court documents are not allowed to leave the premises

Different cases are handled by different kinds of courts:

? DISTRICT COURTS ? for misdemeanors, first appearance cases, evictions, restraining orders, juvenile cases and search warrants

? SUPERIOR COURTS ? for lawsuits involving finances, equity cases, divorce and custody cases and felonies

? PROBATE COURTS ? for cases involving estates, committal, guardianships and adoptions

? U.S. DISTRICT COURT ? cases involving federal laws and agencies

? SUPREME COURT ? appeals from lower courts

? BANKRUPTCY COURTS
