What is Official Football?
When an intermediate football player is well indoctrinated to family football he or she is then ready to play official football. But what is this and how does this game differ from junior football or intermediate football? This article looks at these differences.
First is the football itself. It is larger and official size at 11 inches in length. This football can be made in one of three coverings ? rubber, composite and leather. The leather football is used in all league games and is popular with many family football players. It is made of top grain leather and handles well in all types of weather. This official NFL football can be a Spalding football or a Rawlings football or made by several other manufacturers, including Wilson.
Official family football is a touch football game that permits blocking and even tackling. Its rules, scoring and pace closely parallel the league game, except for the lack of football pads. Official family football can be a very aggressive game when played by older, experienced players. So it is excellent training for league play and many high school and even college players enjoy football fun.
Since official family football can be quite aggressive, players do sustain injuries. So when played at it most demanding level it is not a suitable venue for younger players or girls. Be sure that when playing official family football that players understand all the rules employed and can handle the type of play proposed.
