Before you decide you will be ''only friends'', you need to evaluate your intentions quite seriously; you must realize that you will be pleased by being only a friend, nothing else - or you do this out of despair, hoping you will be back together.

Think that he wanted out of the relationship for a reason - he understood you are not a couple anymore or he simply stopped loving you and even more than that he already has somebody else.

Do not enter a relationship you cannot manage. Let things evolve and consider this:

1. What will you do if, at a party he brings his new girlfriend with him and they start kissing each other in front of you? Shall you cry and become nervous or you pretend everything is Ok but when going back home you start smashing dishes?

2. What will you do if he needs advice related to his new relationship? You need to be a good friend so you can't say ''dump her and take me back instead''.

3. What will you do if he asks you to be just sex partners? Will you accept only sex and when in public behave as a friend?

Another situation can be the one he wants you to be friends, and hopes you can be together again. It may happen that you want it too, but you need to be honest and tell him your relationship is over.

Another problem can be the appearance of a new man in your life. Would you like him to think you are still involved with your ex? You wouldn't.

A friendly relationship between any person and the ex is good only if there are no feelings of love involved but only friendship, which is pretty impossible.
