Septmber is the best time to come to India for trekking, camping and adventure traveling.

Getting to the starting point of this trek, at Kibber, means you need to drive over two passes-Rohtang and Kunzum La. In the monsoons, this might mean some delays; but once you reach the grand pastel vistas of the Spiti valley, you are well into the rain shadow, and any storms are likely to be passing ones.
Send at least four days acclimatizing in the spiti valley, where Kaza makes for the most convenient base. Visit the Kyi monastery, or if you feel like a drive, there's Tabo to the east.
Once you leave Kibber, which some claim is the highest permanent village in the world, you're on your own, so make sure you have adequate food, clothing, and a sound tent. If the weather holds, you should make it to the southern end of Tso Moriri, in eight days. From here, it is an entrancing day's walk to Korzok, along this cobalt and aquamarine vision of a lake, 40km of icy deep water nestled in the soft camel-brown mountains of Ladakh

The previous day, you would have walked through the wind-swept Rupshu plains. If you're lucky, you'll spot the shy wild-ass, kyang. But before then, you'll have to brave several freezing river-crossings, rocky descents into tight gorges, and a long, dehydrating ascent to the Peranga La 18,300ft. The masochism has its compensations-a sense of eternity as you lookdown and out onto the trans Himalayan plateau; the clock turned back as you exchange greetings with yak traders from Ladakh; and a week into the trek, of limitless grace as you glide along the soft turf banks of the Parechu

Jeep-loads of tourists camp close to the lake at Korzok, but there's no public transport out, so you need to pre-arrange transport to get you out.
